Some pics of my cage progress Heres some pics of my Ornate Uromastyx cage progress so far. the small black tubes on the bottom are so i can run my temp wires in from the bottom instead of dangleing them in from the top. the larger black tube is a small tunnel . i should be able to get some more done this weekend. I’ll update some pics as i go. What do you think so far ??

Some pics of my cage progress Nice! What’s the shiny stuff over the chicken wire, plastic? And did you use concrete or grout or what for the wall?

Some pics of my cage progress It’s fiberglass . I chose the chickenwire/fiberglass over styrofoam since I dont have to worry about it going into a fishtank . I have plenty of glass since I am also working on a dunebuggy project . It did take awhile to lay it up since you can only do small portions at a time before the resin starts to set up . I used grout to cover it. Still got a few more coats to do on that. It looks kinda discolored because I took the pics when it was still kinda wet in some places.

Some pics of my cage progress Thanks !! It’s 48x25x30 but the inside height is only 22 or 23 "cant remember " that way the lights are closer and they can also be hidden inside the hood .

Some pics of my cage progress I should be putting some more time into it today or tomorrow . I need to add another coat of grout before I start assembling . I’ll be adding more pics as I get farther along. As for instructions, the best I can do is post more pics and answer any questions you may ask. As for sizes , you’ll just have to adjust to what size you want your own cage to be. Best advice I can give is build in stages . Sure you want to get the main frame assembled right away !!! But isn’t it way easier to work on the fake background when it’s not in a box ? the first thing I did was the background, and inbetween while waiting for fiberglass to dry and such, got my other components cut and sanded. The sides will have glass panels , and the front doors will be glass as well. I prefer doors to swing out instead of slide , gives you more room to work with both doors opened. The assembled pics up already was just fittting it together to make sure it actually fits lol !!

Some pics of my cage progress Well, I only had time today to get a second coat of grout on and now my girlfriend is painting on some highlights . She says she will be working on it for a few days , so I should probably be able to startassembling the cage by next weekend. It’s a little slow going, but it’s all the spare time I have at the moment. heres a couple pics of the back wall, she started from the right side . More pics to come as i get farther along !!

Hopefully I will be able to start putting it all together later today or tomorrow !! Heres a couple more pics . The downsized pics you have to upload do not do it justice !! There is so much more detail then you can see in these pics.

Some pics of my cage progress Nice.Sometimes building the setups is more fun and interesting than the hobby itself. You can go nutty. You always think, dang I should have done this or next time i’m going to integrate that.
Cool your girlfriends into it.When she becomes your wife it’ll be a whole different story.

Some pics of my cage progress Shes an artist, so the painting on the rockwall was all her !! She’s also into reptiles and has 10 ball pythons and 3 bloods !! We have great times going to all the reptile shows together !
Everytime I build something , I always find something along the way that could have been done differently or better . Also , for all the people on here looking for ideas , look no further then other people building cages and the ones they have already built !!! I have seen some fantastic stuff on here !!!! Like that hugh monitor cage , that things a work of art !!!

Some pics of my cage progress
I can’t wait to see it complete with your pet(s) living it up in there! I also can’t wait to get started on my cage. It is being built for me and should be finished by next week. I don’t really have a garage or space (like a yard) or anything to build anything that big.....if only I had a house or some property! Comes in handy for things like this. But I do want to build my own rockwall so I am glad to have come across your post! Thanks for sharing your talents with us. I can sure learn a thing or two from you about building a rockwall. My rockwall is going to be for my CWD (Chinese Water Dragons) and so I was thinking of making a very dark, southeastern asian rainforest looking rockwall. I guess that would mean leaning towards the color black or dark grey almost like a volcanic rock look. Maybe some cork bark in various spots with moss and vines throughout the rockwall to kind of break it up and mix it up with a foresty look. Any suggestions on a rockwall of sorts? I like the fiberglass idea, the wire gives you more options to make tunnels which is very neat.

Some pics of my cage progress Well , I got a few hours in today. I used fiberglass resin to coat all the inside walls . Everywhere there was bare wood is now sealed . I did the bottom and back of the cage in resin since you dont see them. I got the MV light and heating element base’s mounted and wired . I also have a pair of Zoo Med 48" Repti Sun 10.0 going in there. I now only have to stain the top , sides and front "what little wood there is to stain " most of the front and sides are glass. Now I just need to pick out some trim to make the edges look nice ,buy the front glass doors and finish mounting the front of the hinged hood. I think the guys will love it !! It’s alot more room then they have now. I will also have to let it sit for a week after i get all the stain on it to make sure to vent it well . So.... maybe a couple more weeks and it will be done !!! Jerry

Some pics of my cage progress Ok, whew !!! I got the trim done today and stained. All thats left is to seal it and I am waiting on the glass doors to be delivered. I’m going to let it sit for a week after I get it sealed to offgas anything . then I will run the lights and heat to see wht temps I get before transfering the guys into it. I can’t wait !!! I know it’s taken a long time, but i like to do things nice and not be in a hurry. The blue tape is to keep the stain off the glass. Jerry

Some pics of my cage progress Sorry for it taking so long . I was waiting for someone at work to come through with the front glass doors. Well, he failed lol ! I should have just ordered them in the first place . I got glass doors cut to size, edges finished and tempered for less then a hundred bucks shipped !! Anyhow, heres the finished pics. the cage is very easy to clean, access, and the temps are perfect !! And best of all, the uros love it !!! theres also a pic of the 40 gallon breeder to show the size difference. Jerry

Some pics of my cage progress The paint was just regular acrylic artist paint , it’s bassically plastic when dry . I also let it dry for a few weeks . The glass doors... i wish i had not listened to my buddy at work who swore he could get them made for me. I waited more then a month for him to come through. I gave up and looked online and found a place called onedayglass . I put in my measurements and choices for edges,color,etc.. the doors themselves were only 26.00 each !!! Shipping was almost as much as the doors but WELL worth it !! They arrived in about 3 days fit perfect and look great !!!! The edges are all finished as well. Jerry

Some pics of my cage progress For anyone who thinks uro’s don’t climb ? And wonder why they need such a large cage ? My two use EVERY square inch of this cage. Top to bottom, side to side !!! And they RUN !!! It’s like there in heaven now, before they used to spend lots of time basking and very little time exploring , now with the addition of the megaray bulb and two 10.0 floresents , and the overall tank temps , they are busy little guys !! They are pretty much non stop for the first several hours of the day. Anyhow, the cage was a big project , but the end results are worth it !!! Jerry
