 Rockwall Texture Tips?

G;day everyone,

i have built a few rockwalls and ornaments and etc. and i use a coloured grout which looks great, but im having a little trouble with getting a good rock look alike texture

i use paint at times or i mix in a little grey grout with the colour to make different colours but i just cant seem to get the texture look

just wondering if anyone could giv us some tips or hints or post a few homemade ones to giv me some ideas

Thanks

 Rockwall Texture Tips?

for a rough rocky texture i either use a paint brush and dab it on heavily or grab a glob with my hands and splatter it on. for a smooth rock texture once the grout has dried you can sand it smooth using regular sandpaper. if your looking to create shadows or different color strata use either different color grout or you can airbrush it. The key if you ask me is to make sure you shape the foam to how you want the rock and then cover that.

if u are doinga grey rock look take some portland cement or even the dry grey grout... after a a couple dark layers apply a third thick layer andwhile its still wet take a piece of screen or sifter and dust some of the dry portland or the grout across it... sand works too but kinda gotta throw it at the wall to get it to stick well.. the wall should be slightly tilted back while dusting it so u end up with better shadow looks to it.. that’s a easy way of doing it if u don’t wanna use paints ... multiple shades of grout works wonders and be random with the rocks. nature doesn’t place everything in the perfect spot and all the same colors.. a thin wire heated makes great cracks... just make em big enouh so u don’t fill em in with grout
