 Need Large Snake Enclosure Plans

I have just acquired my first red tail boa!! She is such a doll. Being only a few months old she is currently housed in a 30 gallon aquarium. I am fully aware of how large this snake is going to get so I would like to be prepared for this when the time comes. Does anyone have any plans for large snake enclosures? I would much rather build one myself rather than spend alot of money on a custom made enclosure. Thanks!!

I see some folks on Craigs list ...Inland Empire ...if you are in Calif. Selling 4x2x2 enclosures ideal for larger snakes ....

Obviously you are capable of building it or you have someone to help you...For visual plans you can go to any library and get a basic cabinet book ...and build a box to your liking....set up your lights and heating as required and used simple materials.

If you want exact specifics give a dimension ...

Front or rear or top access is up to you ...

The options are endless if your wallet is deep.....

I built my wife’s RTB a cage very large 6ftL6ftT3ftW andshe is 8ftL and it is good for her until she dies and it only cost around $400 so it ant to bad hope these pics help. The heat is good and the humidity is great the hot spot is on top and cool on the bottom.I used 2/4 and 6 peaces of sheet wood and 2 peaces of plixiglass for the front and the door is on the left and is 6ftT3ftW and is locked with 2 lock.

I found a great set of cage building instructions online. I built the cage and it now works great for my 6 ft boa. A friend of mine bought the instructions as well and he used it for his two bearded dragons. The cage is 3’x3’x3’ with a stand to place the cage on that is also 3’x3’x3’. Much better then any of those other flimsy cheep cages I found online and tried to build with. These set of instructions are well worth the price.

3x3x3 is small for a rtb

thats only 6sq feet of floor space, i would say minim is 6x2 for a boa but thats just my opinion.

my boa will have a 6x3 life cage.

Actually, 3x3 is 9sq. ft. of floor space...but I agree, too small.

Please refer to your junior high geometry books. L x W = A (Length times Width equals Area), so 3ft x 3ft = 9ft square AREA of floor space. Also,
L x W x H = V (Length times Width times Height equals Volume), so 3ft x 3ft x 3ft = 27ft cubed Volume of space.

If you still don’t believe me or the other posters on this website refer to http://www.ajdesigner.com/phpgeometricformulas/square_area_a.php

Except for the fact that I’m about a year behind, I just couldn’t let that go. Ran across this post doing research for building my own enclosure (good site by the way) and it occurred to me, anyone reading this post, and using Leo’s math will be building some huge snake houses. Think about it...according to Leo, to get 15 square feet of floor space the thing would have to be 15 x 15...that’s as big as my son’s room!
