Putting a light in a Boaphile cage?

Hey everyone, I just purchased a Boaphile 421 (4’ x 2’ x 1’) for my albino red tail boa. I really want to put a light in there for him, any ideas?

Thanks!

I am assuming after a breif search that BOAPHILES are plastic??

are you prepared to drill a hole and run the wire (2-3.00)... and buy a cileing fixture,porcelain....(1.59) and wire it up ...

get an extension cord ...leave the male plug on (that goes in the wall) cut the length and add a foot extra...cut off , strip the wires... (2) and attach to the screws on the porcelain ceiling fixture ...then attach that to the roof of the boaphile. now the hard part... screw in the bulb...j/k

very simple actually ...let me know if you need images and you tube videos.

You will also want to enclose the light so your snake cannot get burned on it. Boaphile cages are Pvc plastic, yes CP. They do install lighting if you order it with the lighting. Ive heard the best way to heat t hem actually is to have an under tank heater like Flexiwatt tape hooked up to a thermostat. If you put a light in, you will want that hooked up to a Thermostat too.

If you’re doing it because the room it is in is dark in order to get a day and night, it might just be easier to turn a light on next to the cage.

It’s not going to be for heat - it came with heat installed (bought the cage used.) It’s just to lighten it up a bit as it’s really dark!

Thanks guys!

I have an enclosure with bulbs ...of 25 watt that do not get hot enough to burn the snake...an appliance bulb if you will. However in my other tank I do have a wire type square box that protects the snake from the 75 watt bulb that gets much hotter.

Thanks Mother for catching that ...

Good Luck Sugar..hope you get it all worked out

You could build a box for it anyhow to keep it from crawling on any electrical bits, then drill holes in the top to bolt the box with the electricals, running the cord up through either the top, side or back- simular to what CP suggested.

ahh if only I had my own tools! hehehe

Boa does not need heat light.

Use a heat pad or flex watt

For a visual light, us light rope, or any cheap under cabinet fixture.

Hey Suzuki - do you read entire posts before commenting? LOL...too funny. I already mentioned the cage had heat built in, the light I want to put will just be to light up the dark cage. But thanks anyway.

yep I read them...heat built in could be for ambient...you might wanted to create a hot spot.

just remember that LED’s create "directional" lighting

So keep this in mind or you might end up with something that only give you a light "spot"

there are some LED setups with reflectors that work okay, but they still don’t give the range of lighting that other types can provide....

food for thought

another other is rope lighting btw...

Yeah ...it was kinda like a spot ...the LED’s are just so much better than a bulb these days that even the glow gives off more light than a cheap flashlight bulb.... IDK ...have to compare off the shelf and be prepared to exchange if you don’t like it .....

Such a experiment ....LOL

Sugar ..let us know what you do ...mmmkay

Thanks for the suggestions! I like the stick on light idea. I don’t want to create a ton of light, but he’s an albino boa, and pretty much the same color as the aspen bedding, so I just want to be able to see him easily.

Will let ya’ll know how it works out, and take some pictures if possible. I’m home for the evening, so will try and stop by Target or something on my way home.
