Feeding a hatchling Caiman I was suprised to get a 9" specled caiman for Christmas from my wife and 13 year old daughter who saved her own money to buy it for me. The breeder indicated he’d been feeding it crickets and had available feeder fish. My caiman won’t eat the crickets - occasionally she’ll kill them and let them sit in the water. She eats super worms in seconds! I have some gold fish swimming around, but I think she’s only eaten one. The question I have is how often and how many super worms should I be feeding a baby Caiman? I’ve also tried a pinkie mouse, which she ignored. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Feeding a hatchling Caiman I’ve not received any feedback, so thought I’d share some interesting insights. My Caimen eats best about an hour or two after the spot light goes out. She is getting much more aggressive in her feeding. She’ll even climb up on her ledge and jump off it for food out of my tonges and splash in the water - very cool!! The trick I learned for feedingher something that’s not moving, like a piece of a soft liver dog treat is to set it on her ledge and then use a laser pointer to light up the food. She goes for it like crazy! Even if there’s no food, she’ll chase and bite the red laser pointer light, just like my dog does. It’s hilarious! Would still love to know how much I should be feeding her - seems like she’d eat as much as I’d feed her at this point, but only give her a couple large meals worms a day or a pinkie mouse.

Feeding a hatchling Caiman I feed my caiman 2 fuzzies every other night. When he was a baby I would give him 2 pinkies and crickets till he stopped hunting them down, every other night aswell. And every other week I would buy him some rosie’s, he loves fish.
I dont know if you want to feed yours like I feed mine though. I just hit a year since I bought him and hes already 21 inches long (8 inches when I got him). Everyone says hes growing very fast and should only be about 16-18 inches at this age, but... If hes hungry Im gonna feed him. People will say their always hungry but thats not true, they will almost always eat though. They act different when their hungry and you’ll notice that with time.
Also these forums aren’t very active you would be better off posting in the alligator forums or crocodilians forums on other websites.
Good Luck with your little girl.
