New quarters for my Dwarf Caiman I thought I would post a few pics of the new summer quarters for my Schniders Dwarf Caiman. He’s about 17-18" long and has outgrown his 75 gal terrarium. The new encloser is 8’ X 8’ with plywood walls 2’ to 3’ tall and completely enclosed in chicken wire to keep the Racoons and Night Herons out. The pond is made from a kiddie pool and the plywood was painted to give the impression of a forrest. The "log" for him to hide under is made from the bark off of a Hackberry tree that had died.

New quarters for my Dwarf Caiman Thank you for the compliment. I spent way too long painting the background but had fun doing it! I live in central Texas and it’s already getting into the mid 90’s during the day and down to about the mid 70’s at night. I have a heat lamp set up over the "log" although it wasn’t set up when the pictures were taken. There is also a heater in the pond set at 85 degrees in case we drop back down into the 60’s at night. Later in the spring/summer the heaters wont be nessesary but I don’t want it to get too cold for him in the mean time.
Do you have a caiman too, or are you just a fan?

New quarters for my Dwarf Caiman i’ve got a dwarf caiman that i have had about 4 months now. i wish i could have something bigger though, and more "tame". right now i have her in my room in a 75 gallon tank. when she is bigger i’m gonna have to have something built in the basement for her.

New quarters for my Dwarf Caiman Thanks for your reply. I have had to wrap his enclosure with plastic and tarps because we have had a cold front come through central Texas and the night temp is getting down in the 50’s. I had to put extra heaters in his enclosure to maintain a higher temp. With the extra heaters it stays in the 80’s inside. I should be able to take the wrapping off again by next week but for now the night time temps are just a little too low for his health, so the cover stays on. By the way, it only took me two days to paint his enclosure. I am a sometimes artist.
