 Outdoor enclosure

I am researching into the Dwarf Caiman still after a couple of years and am still comtenplating on getting one also getting one of my old suppliers to get me a single hatchling and not 10 of them nor trying to pass me off with a 4’ one as i want to start with a baby
Well after seeing a real smart enclosure that has just been posted (sorry i forgot your name) could i do a outdoor enclosure? Im not from the USA im in Vestvågøy, Norway so is quite a big difference in weather and with being part of the Lofoten islands we can have rainy weather but evan then it is round 13 degrees out are hottest days are 17 - 22degrees (yet again big difference) but if it had a solid weather proof roof and good shelterd sides for example solid sides and a chicken wire door and approx 10inches of chicken wire from the top of the walls to the roof for heat to escape but also minimises the bad weather coming in do you all think that would work?
Also with his/hers heat lamps and heated pool would it be warm enough or just not bother as there is no point?

 Outdoor enclosure

Hi,

This is Russell here. I’m the one that posted the enclosure photos you mentioned. I’m afraid that unless you built an enclosure that was double walled, with insulation, double or triple pane windows, (if you try to have windows at all), floor heat, (heating elements buried under the floor), as well as heat/UV lamps, and a heated pond, it would be unlikely it would survive your weather. If you had windows that could open you might be able to expose the caiman to the fresh air during the warm days of summer, but you would probably have to close them before nightfall. If it’s anything like Labrador where you live in Norway, the night time temps could get too low and make the caiman ill. Maybe even cause it to eventually die.
I live in Texas where it gets nice and hot and I still worry about my little guy when a thunder storm comes blowing through and the temp drops from 95F to 60F, (35C to 16C), in ten minutes! I wouldn’t want to contemplate what might happen if an Arctic front blew in unexpectedly.
So, in my humble opinion, unless you’re ready to build a fully enclosed and heated "extra room/addition" to your house, I wouldn’t do it. Probably not what you wanted to hear. Heck, I’m working on what I’m going to need for my caiman this coming winter when I have to bring him back in out of the cold weather here! A large portion of our extra bedroom will become his "winter quarters" I’m sure.
I know it’s not the same thing, but I’ve seen some really nice Monitors that make good pets and take less space to keep. Plus you can actually handle them without pissing them off. Plus you can even let them run around the house, if you’re careful.

 Outdoor enclosure

Hey,

Sorry i could not remebe your name for the life of me
See doing all that would not be a problem for me when i like a animal i get determinded to meet all of its needs but i do see where you are coming from dont get me wrong like with everything there are pros and cons of things
I have no idea of what it is like in Labrador the coldest we get in winter is -15 obviously if i did continue with this plan everything you stated would be followed and if i could do more i definetly would! The warmest we get is round 30C
But no i am glad you stated the things that could go wrong obviously i was aware but due to not building a enclosure i am not sure on what would go into it
I am in the middle of purchasing either another Bosc/Savannah or a Nile it depends

Thanks Russell :D
It is very appriciated (o^-’)b
