 Illegal, but...

I know that all types of crocodilians are illegal in my state (New Jersey). But what is the actual punishment for getting caught?

I am really thinking about getting a smaller cayman (6ft or smaller). I would build an enclosure for it in my basement, and it would be a good size for him, with plenty on space for him to move around in. Since it is my first cayman I need to do more research, but regardless I need to know if the cons outweigh the pro’s. That and talking the wife into it ;)

And please no "Don’t do it it’s illegal" or "It’s wrong" reply’s.

In most cases I am pretty sure for you the penalty is a fine but for the animals more than likely the penelty will be it getting put down so I would say the cons out way the pros. I am not sure though may be a worse punishment since I know Jersey has strict reptile laws.
