 Wiring

Has anyone wired a dimmer to an outlet?
I need to control the temps on my Ceramic Heat Emitter.
I tried wiring it and I flipped the breaker.

I live in the US working with 110v power.

I have searched and searched and not found out how to do it.

If someone could tell me that would be awesome.

Is it in a regular plug-in ceramic light fixture? I suck at wiring too, but they do sell lamp dimmers for about eight dollars that are very, very well-hidden under piles of other stuff near where the plug-in ones are. Sometimes you actually have to flag down a store employee to unearth them, because stores really, really want to pay thirty bucks or so for the priveledge of doing lots of work and electrocuting yourself, but the easy-solution ones will be in stock everywhere forever... probably because they keep them so hidden.
I’ve got to ask: what are your ambient room temperatures, that you’re using a CHE for a carpet?

I was able to wire it straight through an extension and immediately had an epiphany about how it would be done for an outlet.

it is a 100 W CHE in a cage that is 4’x2’x2’. my room temp is mid 60s. I have it on the lowest it can go and it stays just about perfect... as it warms up I will probably just unplug it. It stays cool here except for the few hot days. (suburbs of Seattle)

Winter didn’t really happen this year lol. spring has been dragging on and is finally starting to show signs of summer. I may get a less powerful bulb if I need to. For light I use CFls. He hasn’t been in his new tank yet...
