 How much cat food is too much? too little?

I’ve heard recently that you’re only supposed to feed your cat 1/4 cut of cat food per day. I’ve been feeding my cat a little over 1/4 everyday but multiple times a day because he’ll meow and rub up against my legs when i go into the kitchen. so I was wondering, am I feeding him too much or am I now feeding him too little? Now I’m starting to only feed him 1/4 cup a day like I was told. He’s a full grown adult male cat.

what type are you feeding him ?... is he showing signs of to much weight ?
what breed is he?
my 4 cats eat 2 cups a day that is divided amoung them... cats are nibbleers and my olderst cat will come meow and want more food just cause the bowls empty ill put a scoop in it he might eat one kibble if he has already eatten for the day ... but they dont like to have empty bowls cause then they wonder when or if its going to get more in it .. my cats eat iams tuna flavor mixed with iams indoor cat
the morn corn products that come before meat products in the intergedents will aslo factor in .. to be frank corn ptoducts clean the cats out where meat fills them .

I don’t know his breed but we just feed him Meow Mix stuff. My mom only buys the cheep cat food because we don’t have a whole lot of money. He’s not fat exactly he actually seems to have a lot of loose skin but he’s never been over weight. The vet says he’s healthy but I don’t know. He’s a weird cat.

Meow mix is absolutely the worst food you could possibly feed a cat. I work in a pet store/cat recue, and know a lot about cat food.

Nutros Natural Choice, Science Diet, and Precise are all relatively inexpensive foods and are WAYYYYYY better than meow mix!!!!

Any amount of meow mix is too much! If he isn’t overweight, you can free feed him. If he starts to get overweight, you can switch to 1/4 cup 2-3 times a day.

Right, but I told you that meow mix is absolutely the worst food to feed your cat. You can spend five extra dollars and get a food that is a LOT better! Even science diet is better!

Well, we have to buy more food for him in a little bit because he’s almost out so I’ll keep that in mind.
