Mother cat died~ D: Kittens only one month, what to do?!?

Okay, earlier today me and my bf’s cat, whom has five kittens that will be one month old on the 22nd, got hit by a car. Shes an inside outside cat, and we were inside, the kittens are in a basket in our room.. well, now we dont know what to do.. I was reading online that they should have their mothers milk til there at least 6 weeks, so, I whent and bought them some of the baby kitten/small animal formula from the store adn a little bottle, I was wondering how many times a day I need to feed them? And do you think theyll live? Me and him are doing all we can for the little things. At six weeks they can eat soft kitty food, am I right or wrong? Im still looking at websites on this, but I just thought of checking here to find out and hopefully get a responce fast.

At that age I wouldn’t bother with formula. I use a good quality dry kitten food (don’t want to start another war, lol ;) ) like Science Diet Growth Formula, soak it in hot water until it is complete mush and thin it with water until it is a soft consistency they can lick. You may have to put a little on their mouths, which they will lick off, to give them the idea of what to do with it. You could also buy the canned and thin it with water. Gradually make it thicker as they can handle it.

By four weeks the mom is usually starting to wean them anyway. The last litter I raised weren’t interested in the soft food I offered them at 3-4 weeks. I figured they weren’t ready for solids yet but noticed the rest of my cats were going through a lot more dry than usual. Found out why when I walked into the kitchen and found the kittens chowing down on it!

Feed them 4-5 times a day and show them the litter box when they’re done. I always fed them in the bathroom with the litter box and left them in there until they used it. For litter training, show them to the box after eating, sleeping and play time.

Good luck, I’m sure they’ll be fine.

You can also make their dry kitten food into mush really quick with a blinder if you don’t have time to soak it (hungry kittens hate to wait), put in the dry chop it for a few seconds then add water and keep blending until its as thin as you need it, you can also toss in the milk replacement formula you bought, and like they just told you, slowly make it thicker each day until they are able to eat it dry. Don’t worry, they should be fine, it will amaze you how quick they learn how to eat and how fast those teeth will start coming in from 4 weeks and up. Good Luck!

Lol- isn’t that the truth. Never thought of the blender- good idea! Thanks.
The night before, I made enough for the next day, kept it in the frige and added warm water as needed.

Warm water is great for softening food. I’ve also had really good luck with mixing KMR (kitten milk replacer) with the dry food. All of my kittens have really seemed to like that.
