 Help!

My kitten Termite has some sort of liquid coming from her rear end somewhere. I’m calling the vet first thing tomorrow because I think it’s probably an infection of some kind maybe from when we had her spayed. I say kitten but she’s nearly a year old now. Whenever she goes to clean herself she licks and then shakes her head a few times then doesn’t lick it anymore. I tried getting a warm moist rag and cleaning her up a bit but that didn’t seem to work. Would it be a bad idea to try to give her a bath? any help would be appreciated.

 Help!

I wouldn’t give her a bath. It’s best to just make her comfortable until you get her to the vet. You don’t want to add stress.

Good luck!

Dargongirl is right do not bath her! It sounds like she has an infection. Just keep her comfortable until you get to the vet. He/she will most likely give her a shot of antibiotics at the office and then give you pills for you to give her for the next 2 weeks. If he/she dose send you home with medication PLEASE make sure you give them all! Don’t stop giving them because you think she is better.

Good luck with her and sorry your baby is not feeling well.

 Help!

Just wanted to update real quick before i go to sleep. I took Termite and Bowser (the puppy) to the vet the other day and he said that her temperature was a little high and he put her on antibiotics for a week. He also gave her a shot of something called Baytril. Does anyone know what that is? He didn’t ask if I wanted her to have it he gave her the pill which i approved of and then gave her this shot which he said should help kick start the antibiotics? But he didn’t explain it beyond that. They more I go to him the more I’m not so sure I like him or his assistant. The assistant has decided either because of my age or maybe he just treats every patient like this but he likes acting like I have no idea what I’m doing which frustrates me. The vet is nice enough but there’s something about him that I can’t quite place that I don’t care for. I think it’s time to go back to the old vet! Tried a different one for the new animals bc the place I work for recommends it but I should just stick with a good thing. We’ll see. Anyways just wanted to let you know ^.^ She seems ahappy and active and my puppy got a clean bill of health.

Oh, and i know this is the wrong forum but when should puppies have thier rabies shot? The vet told me something that goes against what I was taught so what do you say?

 Help!

Puppies have their rabies shots at around 4 months, although I have heard that many will delay the vaccination until around 6 months of age.

Baytril is an antibiotic, a shot of baytril as opposed to an oral dose is stronger (probably) than the antibiotics they sent you with. Did you get clavamox or oral baytril or something else? Yes, the shot may have "kick started" the antibiotics, in a way, but it mainly just works faster than oral meds. If they gave you something other than baytril to take home, I’d be a bit skeptical about mixing antibiotics. My vet only mixes baytril and clavamox when the condition is serious enough to warrant it, antibiotics are hard on the system and mixing them sometimes causes problems.

As far as puppy rabies vaccines, 4 months is about right, but he should be getting his regular vaccinations (parvo, distemper, etc.) long before that. Depending on the brand of vaccine, you will need to get a certain number in the series.

Sounds like you should stick to your old vet!

He gave me Zeniquin to give her orally. I’ve been giving him his shots and he’s barely three and a half months old and i don’t like the idea of him getting his rabies shot that early.

Why not? As long as a kitten is at least 3 months and 2.5 pounds, he/she should have his/her vaccines. You should either get it on the same day as a regular vaccine or set them two weeks apart, but you can’t do them like a few days apart.

Hmm...I’ve never heard of Zeniquin...is it an antibiotic?

Lol, I think I misunderstood your post. Puppies should have their rabies vaccine around 4 months of age, no reason in my opinion to wait until 6. You will also need it to get a license.

 Help!

I was told they need to be a year b4 you need to get thier tags, and I’ll get his rabies done at around four months but that’s close to when he’s due for his next booster, and i know i always HATED getting multiple shots at once so i won’t make him do it either lol plus he’s going to be getting his bordatella the same time as his booster
