 Eye Infection

Ok, people. My cat is about a year old and she had three kittens, but one died. And one of my neighbor’s cat had an eye infection. My cat’s kitten now has a swolen left eye, with clear around her eye. It looks really bad. Anyone know what this is? The vet and all of her shots are coming up soon, but I am really concerned.

See a vet. That is my advice : )

My other advice would be to not allow your nursing mom to go outside. She is bound to pick up germs and diseases and bring them home to her kittens that have no immunities.

My last piece of advice would be to get all three of them spayed/neutered as soon as the kittens reach 2.5 pounds!

The vet will probably give you some tarramycin or something similar to put in the eye a few times a day. Usually eye infections are a symptom of something like an upper respiratory disease, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the vet gives you antibiotics (Clavamox perhaps?) for all three kitties.

 Eye Infection

My kittens are now eight weeks old. Two have already found homes. And I am keeping the mom and baby girl. The cats eye healed. I will be bringing it back to the vet soon. And just to let you guys know, you don’t have to torture your cats by putting that cream stuff on it for weeks at a time before it may or may not heal. Just put an eye drop in it, and it will heal over night. Yes, I should have taken it to a vet, and sorry. But I research things a lot before I just go out and make a bad choice. So, got it and got it. I hear that a lot. And the cats were wild when I got the mom, but she showed many domestic characteristics, which is why I now have her. So the kittens are fine. Thanks for the lovely advice though.

 Eye Infection

It probably wasn’t an upper respiratory or bacterial infection if eye drops helped. Could have just gotten something in her eye or had an irritation, or maybe it just got dry.

Regular "eye drops" would not have magically cured a bacterial infection, but I’m glad they worked for you. I would not, however, advise anyone with a cat with an eye infection to just ignore the vet and put eye drops in. There are numerous reasons for an eye to be irritated.

Good luck with them!
