my cat was just in a fight i worry about him every day. he just came home Saturday from being gone for a week. he was so skinny and looked like he had been laying some where for a while. were going to get him neutered some time this week. he needs to be inside but my dad wont let him stay in any one have any tips on how i can convince him? also my cat Tom was put to sleep around January because he had a cat STD. I’m scared he might have this STD to but its very expensive to get him tested for it and i have one other cat inside. is there more then one cat STD or are there many kinds like in humans?

This is a perfect example of two things:

1) Cats should be spayed/neutered
2) Cats should be indoors

Your family made a commitment to this cat, and therefore made the commitment to keep him safe and pay for medical expenses. These include having him neutered and tested for FIV and leukemia.

It sounds like you are asking for an impossible answer here. If you haven’t yet neutered him and won’t test him or keep him indoors, then my advice to neuter him, test him, and keep him indoors will be useless.

Perhaps rehome him to someone who will keep him inside? If your other cat got an STD, chances are there are cats in your neighborhood with the disease and there isn’t much you can do to prevent an outdoor cat from getting it except to keep him indoors.

I wish your kitty the best of luck.

The above post is correct. It would be best to get him neutered, tested, and kept indoors as already stated.

Absolutely! Once he is neutered, the best thing to do is confine him to a small room in the house for the first couple of weeks. The bathroom works well because it’s easiest to litter box train him in there. Basically, if there is no other place to go potty in the room, the cat will naturally choose the litter box because it draws away the urine and can be buried. Once he has solid litter box habits, you can slowly start to let him out of the room under supervision, a little more each day, until he gets along with your other pets and is fully integrated into the house.

Good luck!

If you can’t get him neutered, find him a different home! Seriously, whether or not he sprays, unaltered males STINK and do not make great indoor pets.

There are plenty of low cost spay/neuter facilities all over the country! It is simply irresponsible to keep an un fixed cat.

As for wishing he was a female, females need to be spayed as well. They stink and spray just as much as males do, especially when in heat. They are more territorial and more unfriendly when not spayed.

its not that i cant get him neutered we found out he has Cryptorchidism heres a link about it Link we did get the one removed but the other one will have to be removed by surgery and theres a chance that they wont find it. the vet said without it removed he will still roam, fight, spray, etc. this will be around $100 and as i said theres a chance they wont find it. where trying to decide on what to do
