 My crazy colored cat

This is Misty. she turned two this July, and she has a sister called Dakota, who is a Calico. their mom was a Calico, and their dad was a grey long-haired Russian Blue mix. when Misty was a Kitten she was a normal light grey tabby, with blue eves. About a year ago her fur turne dthis color and her eyes went green. I know eyes change color in cats with age, but she was more than one year old when hers changed. ok, here she is:

Does anyone else have a cat this color? it’s not Tortie. Thanks!

that’s so funny that i saw your question. just yesterday i found out the difference between a tortois shell and a calico. it all depends on if they have white or not. if they have white fur it’s calico if not it’s a torti, lol!! i thought it was interesting.

Yes, I have two cats like that, being a sucker for precisely that colouring. This fur pattern is known as ’dilute calico’ or ’blue calico’ and, if there’s no white, the cat is a ’dilute tortoiseshell’. Torties and calicos are generally girls, and the (rare) boys are generally sterile. Cats of this colour are also known for feistiness, which has been termed ’tortitude’.

That is a tabby tortoiseshell, known as a torbie.

FLickad knows their stuff. I was wondering if anyone was gonna get this one. Someone else posted with a Dilute torbie kitten too. The difference between Calico and Tortoiseshell is NOT simply the presence or absence of white, some torties DO have white, just not much.

CALICO is defined by clear defined PATCHES of black, reddish brown, and white.
DILUTE CALICO is the same, except patches are blueish grey, and creamy brown/tan and white.

TORTOISHELL is defined by random, almost brindling mixture of black and brown/red, it may or may not have white mixed in, or some have white feet/tailtips/facial or throat markings.
DILUTE TORTOISHELL is the same except, as above, the colors are blue/grey and creamy brown/tan

then there is the TORBIE and DILUTE TORBIE. Colors are mostly the same as above, but there is an OVERLAY of a tabby pattern, normally concentrated on the face/feet/legs/and-or tail. the pattern location is heavily varies, it can show up in one, or ALL areas on the kitty.
