Saved a kitten! saturday we (vet clinic) had a couple come in with a little orange kitten. he’s only about 2-3 weeks old. he doesn’t have any teeth yet. they said their dog brought the kitten home. it was pretty much half dead. he was INFESTED with fleas. i know you don’t normally bathe a kitten that small but he had to be. when i bathed him he had a lot of blood and fleas pouring off of his poor tiny body. he was completely anemic and lethargic. the people said they didn’t know how to raise a kitten that young. after the doctor explained to them what had to be done, they claimed they really didn’t have time to care for one at all. the woman began to cry when she thought of euthanasia. so....the doctor looked at me and put me on the spot. he said to them, well maybe we can just take the kitten and sombody here can take him home and care for him.... hint hint! he actually said that to me. so i said i would take him home, not to keep, but to try and save. we have a pet store as well so after he’s old enough he will be adopted out of there. the doctor didn’t give him much of a chance to make it. and since nobody is paying a vet bill and because he’s so small there’s not too much that can be done. so i took him home with formula, and liquid vitamin supplement to build his blood back up. when i got him home i noticed some weird crackling feeling under his skin along his sides. i called the doctor and he said it was air under his skin. it was from a bacteria that causes air. so.... today he’s doing great! the air is going away and he’s VERY lively! i named him bubbles!

Saved a kitten! EEP! Did the vet test it for Feline Lukemia or Felv before you took it home? Please say you have it quarentined away from the other pets and wash hands alot! Id ask that vet to test him since he put you on the spot like that. Har!
I got my last cat as a rescue. These kids came into the petstore I worked at saying "All you need is a can of Kal Can...*shakes head* He was 3 weeks, ears and eyes were just opening. Bottle feedings every three hours with KMR. Rubbing his little tummy and then his butt to make him pee and poop. Even taking his little paws when he did and burying it in a small cat box. ( Jack only once peed outside the box...and that was when I neglected the cat box and I really really cannot blame him! He peed on a plastic bag that got loose from its container.)
Good luck with the furry baby.

Saved a kitten! nope, he wasn’t tested. i’m not too worried though. leuk is only contagious through direct contact. it doesn’t survive in the environment. my cat that lives here with me HATES other cats and wants nothing to do with it. also, she’s always been properly vaccinated. another thing.... to do that test you have to have a good blood sample. have you ever tried to draw blood from an animal as small as a 2 week old kitten? almost impossible! well, it’s not impossible but it is very hard and i just don’t see causing the kitty that much stress and pain right now. another reason to not cause stress is because feline leuk doesn’t always kick in. meaning that if the kitten was exposed to it, unless the kitten’s immune system is lowered enough to make the leuk flare up, he will just build natural immunity against it and never actually catch it. the stress of trying to draw blood can cause all of that to be shot. anyway, thanks for worrying but i’m not worried at all. i’ve never seen a vaccinated cat catch any of that, even though i know it’s possible. still sasha will never come into contact with it anyway.

Saved a kitten! Ahhh excelent! And yeah, if your cat is vaccinated, no need to worry.
The Siamese I had growing up died because a neighbor let him in when his cat was sick to keep it company. *grr* This was back in the day when people didnt keep indoor only cats so we didnt think of it til after he got sick, mostly to prevent other cats from getting it. Now, I would always have an indoor only cat.
Here is hoping the kitten continues to thrive! Great work bringing it back from the brink.

Saved a kitten! update on kitten; he’s doing GREAT!! he has already had his first set of vaccinations, and has been checked for worms and we’re in the clear. he already has a little spot in out pet store where he is going to be adopted out. he LOVES the can food. he has to be wiped down daily because he literally gets covered in the food lol! he’s a screamer for attention, and i think he’ll make a great pet for someone’s family. too bad i didn’t have any room for him. oh well. i’m making sure the manager of the pet store is running everyone by me who is interested in getting bubbles (i named him that because of the air producing bacteria that was under his skin) so i can feel them out. we had one person interested yesterday but he ended up wanting a female cat and bubbles is a boy. so keep your fingers crossed that he will find his forever home soon.
