My cat’s lip is swollen. Any ideas?
Any ideas as to what it might be? |

I just took a closer look at her bottom lip and it appears to be swollen in other areas as well. Is it possible that she might have been stung on her lip by a hornet or something similar? She goes outside everyday and has a tendency to attack insects. Also, is there anything I can put on it if it is? |

I looked at her mouth again and I discovered that the lower part of her gums is bright red. Could there be any connection between this and her swollen lip? I’m trying to convince my mom to take her to the vet’s. My mom wants to wait a few more days to see what happens. :P |

It could be ulcers in the mouth, which are a sign of serious upper respiratory (calici virus). If untreated, your cat can die!! It probably isn’t that serious, but better safe than sorry. It could also be cat herpes, or, your cat could have bit on an electrical cord (this happened to one of my foster kittens once). Any number of things could have happened and the only way to tell for sure is to see a vet. Without a photo I can’t even make a best guess... Good luck! |

After doing some more research, I think she has an eosinophilic granuloma. I discovered this picture, which shows a cat with an eosinophilic granuloma. This is what Bunny’s lower lip looks like.
According to what I read, food allergies can cause eosinophilic granuloma. There are other causes, but food allergies would make the most since because my mom started feeding Bunny a new catfood nearly about five days ago. I could be wrong. I think it’s quite possible that she might be allergic to the new catfood my mom’s giving her. |

Since the change in food, the swelling has gone way down. I’m confident that the swelling will completely disappear by tomorrow morning. If it appears again, my mom’s going to take her to the vet. :D |
