1. Put your hand to the cage. If the cat comes over and rubs against it, it likes you. 2. Ask to hold the cat. If the cat not only rubs against your hand, but is cool with being held, then it’s all good to go. It’s easy to figure this out with both adult cats and kittens. Cats may be afraid when you first bring them home and will need a few days to settle in. So if the cat wants to be left alone upon arrival, leave it alone. Leave it in a small room at first (so the new home isn’t too overwhelming) and play with it every day. The cat will also like you if you feed it, but that’s commonsense. Most cats in shelters just want a good home. You can also ask the shelter employee about the type of cat you want (loving lap cat, frisky cat, aloof cat, playful cat, etc) and they can usually give you some choices or tell you which cats wouldn’t work for you. |
