No let them keep nursing leave dry kitten food out at all times. you can soak some of the dry in a dish on the side with water to soften it up for them or try a little can food but don’t rush them they can go to new homes at eight weeks of age is best call and ask a Vet in your area.

well, as long as mom is around they are going to want her milk for sure. at 4 weeks old though, that’s okay. when they’re about to be 6 weeks old is when i would start trying a little harder.

I was just wondering why one of the kittens will now eat the food but the rest just spit it out and go away. As soon as food is down one little kitty comes straight over and starts eating but the others arnt interested. Will they in time begin to copy the other kitten and take the food?

well look at it like this, every kitten is different. just like people. some kids scream and kick because they want cookies and ice cream instead of dinner. other kids, like i was, actually like vegetables and things. so, that one kitten just realized before the rest did that this food is a good thing. they may mimic the other kitten, but they already know what the food is. they just prefer milk. i knew a cat that tried nursing for six months!! that was only because mom was around. when mom had another litter (yes this person was irresponsible) he began nursing off of her again when she produced milk for her new kittens. so some kittens will not let go of mommy until mommy is either not around, or spayed and not producing milk anymore.

by the way, remember that right after a cat has kittens, she is EXTREMELY fertile. she will go back into heat almost immediately. it’s recommended that you get them spayed immediately after the kittens are weaned to prevent more kittens. well, good luck, and don’t stress over it right now. they will all eat in their own time.

You could also try soaking the kibble in with some warm KMR and mixing in wet kitten food. We do this for the kittens we get in that need to put on weight and they gobble it right up.
