About a week ago, I was sitting outside with my cat, Missy, when the cat came running up to us. My cat, Missy, got freaked out so I put her back inside. I was going to go in with Missy, but the cat started to cry. So, I sat outside and called to it. It wouldn’t come up to me at first. After a few minutes of talking to it softly, it ran up to me and climbed in my lap. Ever since then, the cat comes running up to anyone who leaves or enters our house. So, today, my mom and I decided to give the cat food because it’s extremely thin. I hadn’t noticed how thin it was because I didn’t pet it too much ( mainly because I feared it might have something I could give my cats). I ended up giving it water as well ( you can’t eat without having something to drink). I looked over the cat and I discovered it has flees and ticks. So, I ended up giving it flee/ tick medication. I also treated its ears with medicine for ear mites. For the last few hours the cat has been laying on our porch. Whenever I go outside, it gets up and runs over to me. I put a towel outside for it to lay on a few minutes ago. It’s sleeping on it as we speak. Now, to get to the point, I don’t know what to do with the cat. I’m confident it’s a stray. I’ve seen it walking around in the rain and heat. It’s really dirty looking. I’d take it in, but I don’t have the room ( I have nine cats at the moment, five of which are rescues). Plus, I’d have to get it checked by a vet. I won’t have the money to afford that until around three weeks. I don’t have a shelter in the small town I live in. I can’t call any of the major humane societies to come pick up the cat, as most of the cats they take in are being euthanized. I actually don’t think the humane societies really focus on stray cats. Everyone ( I’m serious) lets their cat run loose in Missouri. There are cats everywhere. My aunt has eleven stray cats on her property. Five of the cats we currently have are from her property. In the neighborhood I live in, you’re not allowed to have outdoor cats ( which is why I walk mine out on leashes). My mom and I are only supposed to have two cats at the moment. For each pet, my mom has to pay a nonrefundable five hundred dollar fee. She’s already payed one thousand dollars just to own two of our cats ( which is really unfair, in my opinion). I don’t know what to do. Should I continue caring for the cat outside? I thought about opening the garage up a tad bit so the cat could have a bit of safety. I’m planning to get it to our vet’s, no matter what. If my mom doesn’t want to pay, I’ll be glad to. I’d be willing to re- home it once its had shots and has been fixed. I really don’t think I’ll have much luck. My mom and I can’t re-home the five cats we rescued, and we’ve been advertising them for weeks. We had them fixed, wormed, tested for FIV, and have gotten their shots. We’ve gone so far as to offer them for free, but no one wants one. The stray cat’s a real sweetheart. I know he’d make someone a good pet. He doesn’t deserve to rot outside. I have the money to care for him ( well, in a few weeks, I will), but I don’t have the room for him. I’m at a loss. I just don’t know what to do with him. Even if you don’t have any ideas, I’d love to hear from you. |

http://www.nokillnetwork.org/d/Missouri There are some more no kill shelters. Same rules apply. Contact, inform them on the situation, and one will probably help. |

I messaged four no- kill shelters, asking them to help out the stray cat. I’ve gotten responses from two, both of which told me they are currently not taking in cats. Hopefully one of the other no- kill shelters I messaged will be able to take him. On a positive note, my mom and I found someone who might be interested in giving two of our rescued kittens a home. :D |
