 Centipedes?

How exactly can you tell the difference between a centipede? Just a random question. Oh, and are they dangerous? Because I’m thinking about using them for a biology experiment but I’m not sure if I should incase it causes harm to me. I’m a freakin’ scardycat!

well, there are five major orders of centipedes, but one is only found in Tasmania/Australia so probably not in your area
check out http://bugguide.net/node/view/20/tree

the centipedes you are most likely to see in day to day life are 1) stone centipedes, lithobiomorpha and 2) house centipedes, scutigeromorpha

both of which can give you a pinch, but that’s about it

geophilomorpha are long VERY thing centipedes with over 100 legs! no danger there

scolopendromorpha are the monsters, some of which get over a foot long... those hurt to get bit by.

what kind of experiment are looking at?
