Open mouth... a problem? my veild cham is doing fine in his cage and gets misted twice daily, even though he hates it and only drinks from the waterfall. half of the time i see him basking under the heat lamp he is opening his mouth and keeps it open, but never under the uvb lamp. his mouth looks hydrated and he does not have MBD or any problems. is opening its mouth normal to regulate temperature or is something going wrong? he also gets vitamin d3 dusted crickets.

Open mouth... a problem? A few issues I see here. Waterfalls are BAD. They are bacteria breeding grounds no matter how clean you think you keep it. If he is keeping his mouth open then he may be too hot-chck your temps in that spot. You should only be using calcium with D3 sparingly-you need to get some calcium without D3 to use more often, please read up on proper supplementing. Too much D3 can kill your cham.

Open mouth... a problem? ok i’ll keep a heating schedule and not use the d3 that much. he usually goes down in the pathos plants if he’s too hot. how can i get him to drink if he won’t when misted?

Open mouth... a problem? if he is not drinking when you mist, you are probably not misting enough. think rain, i have my mister set to mist 7 min. most chams need at least 5 min of misting to stimulate them to drink. my mister goes off every 2 hours. mist should be directed to the leaves, where they will then drink drops as they fall or off of the leaf. i have seen 2 ways, rocketing the tongue to catch drips, or actually gettin right to the leaf and opening his mouth for the drops. the waterfall in the long run will be very unhealthy. search here for automatic misters. i know i posted how i built mine for around $60. you could also just mist by hand, but watch out for carpal tunnel. all of this misting creates a need for drainage of the water which is a whole different topic.
