 My pygmy Cham died :(

I bought 2 little pygmy chameleons from a reptile expo a few months ago. You guys did warn me that I had no way of knowing their ages or health. The female was doing great, moving around, eating drinking, pooping. She layed eggs a couple weeks ago and seemed fine but she went down hill so quick. Two days ago she was fine, then yesterday she spent the whole day at the bottom of the enclosure. The male joined her and I thought they were mating but by the end of the day he was back up in his branch but she was still down in the moss. I picked her up and she was still moving and was able to grip my finger but didn’t seem right. I thought she was dehydrated so I misted her and moved her to an isolated hospital tank. She passed away this morning. I feel so sad for her. I can’t say that I wish I hadn’t gotten her, I just hope her last few months were comfortable and pleasant for her.
I still have the male, he seems fine but she went so quickly I’m going to be paranoid about him.

 My pygmy Cham died :(

im really sorry to hear about it , i know you tried your best to with the eggs and like you said buying pygmy chameleons you dont know there age or if they have a desease just around the corner to wack them so look up and maybe try another species one that isnt so small and delicate , for example a veild chameleon they are hardy and strong because of where they come from a desert/ mountian in yemen and suadi arabia , and in the wild theve been known to go weeks with out food but still need water everyday , doesnt mean you dont feed them for three weeks but they have been known to do so , yes the veild might be abit fussy when they reach maturity and then they turn evil but you have to respect the fact they are like us in a way and dont wana be botherd what so ever but again stina look up and not down over this yes things happen that we dont want to happen but they do so cheeer the heck up ahaha and hope your ok

Thanks Boothy, I’m OK...just a little sad but I still have the male and he seems fine so far. If I do get another Cham I want one of the HUGE ones. I saw people at the rep show walking around with them and they are SO cool but right now I have more then enough reptiles to keep me busy.. i have 5 snakes (had snakes for YEARS...they are much easier to care for....my oldest is about 11 and I got him as a hatchling) A Mountain horned lizard I’ve had a few years and a beardy as well as the tiny Cham.

i know that this is a couple days old, and i am very sorry for your loss..

however, i was looking through your pictures of the female Pygmy, and i can say, that if i had seen that girl for sale at the expo, i would have steered clear of her for sure...

she was very dehydrated and emaciated. you could see bone definition in her back legs of the tibia and fibula. her head has almost no fat surrounding the sides and nap of the neck, and you could count her ribs and bones going down her tail...

her eyes were also incredibly sunken in...

i am surprised that she even had the strength to lay any eggs..

again, sorry for your loss. these were just some things that i would have looked more closely at when purchasing one of these relatively hardy animals..

i hope that this hasnt soured you for owning future pygmies..
