 Jackson’s chameleon help

hey, i just got a new jackson’s chameleon, he is young, under 4 months old. I got him at a reptile show. his temp stays at about 75 on the high end, he has a UVB light that puts out 7% UVB. he is in an all mesh cage, so he has proper circulation and he has plenty of foliage to hide in. I mist him frequently during the day and keep his humidity above 65% almost all the time. since we got him he has been sleeping most of the time, and i havent seen him eat, but the crickets had been disappearing until the past few days, they are kept in a can in his cage that he can get down into but the crickets cant escape. anyone know what might be wrong, if anything?

 Jackson’s chameleon help

Is your new cham captive bred or wild caught? What vendor/seller did you purchase him from? Was he asleep when you saw & purchased him?

You said he’s young, under 4 months ... how long is he, (in inches) snout to vent?

How are you providing drinking water and how often? Do you mist his cage?

How are you keeping humidity above 65% most of the time?

What sized crickets are you offering, how often and what are you gutloading the crickets with?

What kind of bulb/fixture are you using to provide heat? Jackson’s are montane, so cooler temps are imperative. How close is he to the heat source?

What size is his cage and where is it located in your house/apt?

Sorry for all the questions, but as you probably already know, healthy chams don’t sleep during the day or "most of the time", so it’s good you are investingating now, before it’s too late.

 Jackson’s chameleon help

he is captive bred, and i got him from reptile kingdom. he is almost 2 inches long, not including his tail. he is getting drinking water from me misting him, and i mist him about 7 or 8 times daily. his humidity is staying up from me misting him. the crickets im offering are 1/8th inch crickets gut loaded with Zilla gut load. for a bulb he has a 7%uvb bulb and he stays about halfway down the enclosure from the heat source, the area he stays in is about 70 degrees F and most of his heat comes from the ambient temp of the apt. he is located in a low traffic area of the apt, one of the rooms we only go in to care for our reptiles. and his cage is 18"L x 12"W x 20"H.

Are you providing a basking spot that’s about 85degrees? yes they like cooler temps (70-80) but they also do need a basking spot.

He may not be eating because he is not hot enough as well.

I actually just raised his basking temp to about 85 yesterday, i spoke with the breeder and her told me to do this. He also said that it may take him a few days to acclimate to the change, so I’m going to wait and see.

Yep, even though they do like temps in mid 70’s, they do like a basking spot.

As the breeder said, it should eat in a couple days.
