I am "new" but i bought a ExoTerra cage and it came with loose brown substrate- i think its like wood mossy stuff but i had it in for only a day and then chucked it out- I’m sure germs can breed in there very quickly and crickets can mess about in there-

I bought one of those fake green grass mats- it works great- the chameleons are aboreal and seldom come down to the ground- its easy to clean and very hygienic- Its what i would recommend.

Have a nice day !

good old paper towels , easy cleaning and you just toss and reapply new ones after cleaning the cage
