 Buds Update -Thank you

I been out most of today so my flat hase been nice and quiet.

I went to the pet shop where i brought her from as the man keeps his own panthers and vields. I found out bud is 5-6months old and not 4months like i thought..

i showed him a pic and he said yup she looks egg bound and to make sure i get calcium in her i said i cant get her to eat so he gave me some liqid calcium and d3 to put in her misting water. When i got home her sand had been moved and she looks a bit thinner!!!! I misted her down and managed to get her to eat 4 crickets and 3 waxworms. as she hasnt eaten for a while i’d feed her anything just to start her off again. lol.
I couldnt get a proper look at her stomach as i want to compare it to the basking pic, i;ll be able to do that in the morning. but she does look thinner, i dug and emptyed her sand but found no eggs so i am really confused, but i did find a big poo that sorta hard bark mixed in it. I have put the sand back in until i can get a proper look at her stomach.

She now has the hang of feeding out of a hanging cup I was wondering if it would be a good idea to feed her some mini mealworms as i have heard they are high in calcium?

Unless I’m misunderstanding, her poo had sort of hard bark mixed in it? Do you now or have you ever used a wood-based substrate in her cage? Did the pet shop?

Rather than being egg-bound, it’s also possible she’s suffering from an impaction of wood bark/chips, perhaps from a cage substrate. Might want to look into that possibility as well.

the shop has always had her in a cage with natural coconut husk type stuff, thats whats in her cage now the same make as what she has always been on.....

what can i use on the bottom of the cage as i want to stop using it. I thought the same after i saw that poo but its confusing as she was still pooing everyday.

Today she has been in hunting mode all day and has ate aroung 7crickets and 1 waxie, i dont want to give her to much at one time as she hasn’t ate for a whie and i dont want her to stuff herself if that makes sense

Please remove the coconut husk immediately.

Chameleons are arboreal. They spend their time up off the ground in trees. They do not require substrate of any kind. Paper towels or newspaper is acceptable for ease of cage cleaning, but anything else is generally just a conduit for bacteria, mold, fungus (given the large amounts of water and humidity a chameleon needs to thrive) as well as accidental ingestion when a cham shoots at a free-ranging cricket or water droplet. I suspect if anything, that is what your cham’s loss of appetite might be contributed to and you may have gotten lucky that she passed it. You (and she) may not be so lucky next time.

After you remove the coconut husk, please contact the shop owner and educate him on the dangers of substrates in cham cages. Research of proper chameleon care is free and quite easy online!
Hard to believe he would keep his own Panthers and Veileds on coconut husk.

Thank you!!!! If i knew that the husk was of danger to my baby i would never have used it. I have removed all traces and got my b/f to hold Bud while i hovered all traces of coconut husk out of her cage/enclosure.

I will be contacting the petshop first thing tomorrow morning!!!! I have brought some paper tableclothes which are very cheep from wilkinsons have no dye in them and for the price that i paid for the husk i can change her cage 40 times with the paper table clothes!!!!

Thankyou LunaC, as far as i am concerned you have saved buds life

thankyou
