 Illegal in MA?!

I just found this out today, I can’t even begin to understand why. They’re harmless pretty much. They couldn’t survive in New England weather so there’s no threat of them over populating the area. Anyone want to shed some light on this or help me find someone I could send a letter to requesting info on this? I’m not really sure who to talk to about this. I didn’t even want a chameleon till I saw that I couldn’t have one, now I almost wanna buy one just to break the ridiculous law...

first off dont buy a chameleon just to break the law. second, were did u hear they were illegal in NE? i live in philly so could understand why they shouldnt be illegal (i have a veiled), i know in NY iguanas are illegal but chameleons in NE? that sounds f*cked man...

i sorta know how u feel (look at marijuana laws), but like my first sentance: wrong reason to get one and you could get fined/confinscated(i dont know how it works and what penaltys are lol)

i wouldn’t actually buy one unless i planned on taking care of it and really wanted it lol, im just saying i’m pissed about this.
i read it on a massachusetts legal wildlife site, i forget where. I also read on a forum for chameleons, this guy from boston said "i wish i could get one but they’re illegal here"
laws are supposed to prevent people from taking other people’s freedoms. this makes no sense, benefits no one, this isn’t even like a drug or seat belt law because it’s not protecting anyone. it’s like if i just said "hey whoops, paper weights are illegal"

same source but the lists are on different pages for some reason and they’re typed differently...

Anyway, with a closer look I noticed it says "Unlawful: Chameleons" on both, but it does say "Lawful: New World Chameleons"

I have no idea what that means. Anyone?

well from reading the first link i would say that chameleons are listed as a rare speicies(spelling) and so made illegal? i am not sure about old world chameleons...

You are correct. Old World chams are true chameleons, the ones we keepers have. New World chameleons aren’t chameleons at all, but anoles. I suppose they are only called chameleons because of their color-changing abilities.

nah, other way around lol, new world is legal, and i don’t really care for anoles :/
it’s cool though, cause chameleons are mad hard to take care of and mad costly, i’m stickin with geckos and water dragons for now

i really want to figure out how to fix this law though... it’s just not right as far as i can see. there’s no reason i couldn’t keep a chameleon as a pet in massachusetts....

its just like the no pitbulls law. both r stupid. well, now that im interested im ganna go find out why they made the law cuz i already kno y they made pitbulls elligal in sum states. its cuz idiots using them for dog fighting. wich i dont see why the government doesnt enforce the no dog fighting law cuz then they wouldn’t have 2 band the breed. sorry. im going off subject. =D
