 Wierd question...

now i know this is going to get touchy for some, but if you could please take the question on face value...

this is the dilema. i’ve been driving two hours every week to get to the only pet shop that sells crickets. i’ve tried breeding them, but they haven’t hatched yet. i’ve tried catching them, but that only got me one single grasshopper.

when i read about the cham killing the smaller one, i started thinking... if i set it loose in my bathroom, will it solve the problem of the baby house geckos that got laid in there? (they’re wild house geckos. they run RAMPANT here. they’re so cute, but they drive me nuts... especially when they show up on your toilet paper roll). or could i catch a few and instead of putting them outside, could i put it in the cage w/ him and have him eat one everyonceinawhile?

i’m aware that you’re not ALLOWED to feed live vertabrates in the uk, but as a simple question... would he be able to digest it, and would it provide the proper nutrients? this would be very expensive on mainland us, but it’s actually more economical here, you see?

 Wierd question...

Two thoughts-house Geckos are nocturnal while chameleons sleep at night and the potential parasite load that could come from feeding wild Geckos.

 Wierd question...

well... in response... house geckos are running around my house all day long (although, yes... the adults are around more often at night). they are very easy to catch (that’s all i do here, catch and release all day long. i think there’s a hole in the screen or something... grrr). as this is a wild caught chameleon, he’s probably already got parasites, and my intention is to RE release him back into his natural environment, so he’ll probably get parasites later if he hasn’t got them already. i understand what you’re saying though...
but wouldn’t that be BETTER if the geckos are sleeping when they’re eaten?

i’m basically asking if he would a.) accept it b.)digest it and c.) would it provide nutrition?

i’m not the kind of person to just throw them together and "see what would happen." i don’t want either one to get "hurt". if he’d eat it, fine. but if he’s just gonna dismember and/or kill it w/o eating, then i’d just get REAL depressed.

the way i see it, he’s got two more weeks with me before i get a chance to release him in the proper environment. i’d only do it if i run out of crix.

and for the record... i feel bad feeding him crickets. they’re cute too. *sniffle* ::insert cute pic of cricky from mulan:: there’s a reason i only used f/t or freeze dried feeds (or house ants) until now...

my other option is ... cockroach... ew. no. gross. full of disease... BLEAUGH. harder to catch anyways.
