The shower head is adjustable so I use a fine warm spray. I leave my chams (one at a time only) in about 15 mins, then let them sit on the plant for another few minutes while the bathroom is warm and humid. Do not leave your cham totally unsupervised and close all doors. I have had one leave the plant, get out of the deep (Jacquzi) tub (despite two curtains), cross the floor and up onto a live plant on a wrought-iron table across the room. Took me about 15 frantic minutes to find him perfectly hidden on the live plant. Showers are not recommended for small or young chams. |

Hes due for a vet check soon and my biggest worry now is how I am going to get him out of the cage and into a carrier to go. Never had a problem before but now I fear he will rip a chunk out of me when its time to get him out to go. Any ideas for that? |

I’ve always been of the opinion that a cham that constantly tries to get out of it’s enclosure when a door is opened is a cham that simply wants out. Chams don’t look to us for comfort or companionship, so it wouldn’t make sense that they "like" us or enjoy our company. He just wanted out of his cage, for whatever reasons, so when you opened it up he merely used you as an escape route. Perhaps something just isn’t "right" in his cage ... not enough foliage, too small, in a area of traffic, too hot, too cool, waterfall bugs him, you bug him ... could be anything! I personally have never handled my chams much at all. Even when they were babies, I never just took them out and let them crawl around. To this day, I’ve never had a cham try to leave it’s enclosure when a door is opened. I have a couple that will come right to the open door and sit for hand feeding, but have never tried to get on my hand, arm, shoulder, whatever. The less tolerant chams merely sit wherever they are when a door is opened ... and wait like snakes to strike when my hands get too close! lol Try wearing gloves to avoid a bite. Put one hand in front of him, and using the other hand, gently nudge him from behind to "guide" him to your hand in front. Or, use a branch, large dowel or some other long object he can grasp easily and nudge from behind to guide him onto that so you can carry it to the carrier. |
