Yes, that could definitely be a problem! How big is your cham and how large are the crickets he eats?

No one can say if he can "fix this" or not. It really depends upon what kind of damage has actually been done and if there is some underlying medical condition that is causing him to lose the muscle tone of his tongue.

 In need of help ASAP!

i have a chameleon that is really sick and i have tried everything i possible can ! he will not eat or drink ! and he is always sleeping, i have always took care of him and made sure that his temperature and humidity is correct (humidity being 70 temp being 80) and dusted and feed the crickets etc before feeding him, along with misting him and making sure his water dripper was constant so he had water.
but these last 2 months he has gone from being healthy to the state he is in now ! i dont live near any vets that deal with lizards and have even phone my local zoo which is about a 3 hour drive away, who then told me to phone there vet who was even further away, when i spoke to them they told me he was dehydrated and that he needed antibiotics, luckily enough my local veterinary managed to contact a specialist who has sent me some antibiotics specifically for chams, which i have been giving him, along with a hydro life which the vet clarified with the specialist that it was ok to give him despite him being on antibiotics, but there has been no improvement and i fear that the only option left now is to put him to sleep because he is just shutting down, another symptom was that his siliva was very gluey sort of and i thought i saw him blow a couple bubbles. any advise will be greatly appreciated because i dont want to lose him

 In need of help ASAP!

a few more details would be nice.

what kind of cham is it?
how old is he?
what are you feeding him?
what is he housed in?
how long have you had him?
anda few pictures would be nice.

you say your a ways away from a vet so i’d recomend spending a few more bucks on long distance phone calls to get other opinions.

Quote:

they told me he was dehydrated and that he needed antibiotics

this makes no since to me.. dehydration does not require antibiotics. i cant say for sure(I’m not a vet and i dint have a lab) but it sounds like he may have parasites/worms. but without having a vet sending a sample of poop to a lab i dint think there is a way to tell for sure.

if it is dehydration, id say try raising the overall humidity in his enclosure to about 85 and mist him down more often, and make sure its with warm water. and make sure to mist him directly. that way at least "some" of the watter should get in his mouth.

please try to post some pics and keep us updated as to his condition..

Why doest that not make sense? It does not say the vet thought he needend antibiotics BECAUSE he was dehydrated, just that he was dehydrated AND needed anibiotics. Two different things.
