Unique cage ideas Hey a few years ago my bro had a chameleon he didn’t have a cage for it, just a Bunch of vines a light, food dish etc suspended in the air with it in a corner. and a screen hanging parallel under it to catch droppings. It never left this area and was very healthy. I am planning on getting a chameleon and is this an alright idea? I have no cats or dogs. what kind of adjustments would I need for this etc thanks

Unique cage ideas A lot of people keep certain chameleons that way. Some are from regions with a bit cooler temps so do your research on what kind you want cause you may have to keep the room temp a little warmer than usual. I have seen a lot of people use creamic pots with a rope tied through, with a knot in each one to hold them up, hanging from the ceiling with a light and vines.

Unique cage ideas Chameleons require both a UVB light source and a basking light source. They require more ambient humidity than is found in most average houses or rooms. Feeding could also a pain.
How long did your brother maintain his free-style setup?

Unique cage ideas Right on, he maintained it for years, this was when I was a little younger use to use this site alot, then my parents split up yada yada, long story short my dad now has it. I have loads of lights uvb and heating lights from when I was breeding beardies. As for feeding it I would use an enclosure for that, would be nice to have no flys in the place though :D. I also have some plants in the room it will be in, if you guys could tell me if it would be alright if it got a hold of these maybe ate a piece, theres a salvia divinorum a salvia apiana these are the ones I am worried about. Im sure these will be out of its reach but you never know. Thanks guys.

Unique cage ideas As for the humidity what If I had one of those portable humidifiers and placed it under him the ones you plug in and they raise the rooms humidity they look like a juice jug almost.

Sages. Yeah, I’d be worried about the S. Divinorum too. It’d kill a cham most likely. Not even very healthy for people.
The S. Apiana may not be toxic to people , but I still wouldn’t take chances where my animals are concerned.

I forgot ... Cool-air humidifiers are always a good idea. You’re still going to have to mist a cham heavily at least 4-5 times a day though, so will want to protect the floor, of course.

I forgot ... this thread has got me thinking.... high up in the corner.... with a humid shelter that has branches inside for him to climb on maybe? what species would be suited to this style of husbandry?
