Since you are a first-time chameleon owner, you should purchase a CB Flapneck, not a WC just because they are cheap.

I’m not sure what "cage" you are looking at from glasscages for $29, but it sounds more like a regular aquarium price and not a suitable chameleon cage. Also, a 24 X 12.5 X 17 is not large enough for an adult cham, not even a smallish Flapneck.

Chameleons need a source of UVB AND heat during the day, no heat or light at night.

The wattage of your heat source is dependent upon:
1) the species of cham you have
2) the age of your cham
3) the distance from the heat source to a branch/vine the cham will be using to bask upon. You actually have to measure the temperatures in a cage (the basking surface, directly below the source, etc) in order to provide the proper heat recommended for your species.

Flapnecks generally do okay with temps no higher than 85; 75-78 on the cooler side (yes, temp gradients are necessary) and no night time heat.

They also require high humidity. Again, a UVB source is imperative.

Research is important, so keep reading up to be sure a Flapneck is what you really want.

generally speaking most chams should not be kept in glass cages regardless of (cham or cage) size, i am not saying it cant be done , but keeping chams in glass cages should only be attempted by experienced keepers who are aware of the issues and have the experince to deal with it . (i know now i am going to get all kinds of emails from people telling me how sucsessful they have been at keeping their chams in glass cages and how happy their chams have been, trust me, most of those people will be on this or some other forum in the next six months, complaining their cham is dying and they dont know what to do, the answer is simple dont start off your cham keeping experience by doing what the generall history of cham keeping and the general consensus of experienced cham keepers tells you not to do (ie just do what has been proven to work and buy a real screen cham cage)
