Chameleon behaviour
its almost impossible to ascertain anything without at least some basic info , a young chameleon could be 4 weeks old, or 8 months old , and there is no information regarding his care or enviroment, caging, lighting, diet, temeratures, supplementation, hydration, age, etc., all would play a role in making any sort of viable assesment, how you would expect anyone to evaluate his condition (on this or any other forum)without any information is beyond me . but generally speaking , dark charcoalish or blackish colors would be more alarming and indicitive of a problem than being monotone brown, first of all, do you even have any idea of his age (what is the svl?)? most chams dont even begin to show their colors until they are about 4months old, so knowing the age would be a big help, also not all veileds even develop the barred mottled camo type appearance that is usually associated wth veileds ,(although with males it is usually the case) but there are exceptions to every rule, so that brings the next three questions , has he previously displayed colors that he is not now displaying ?, and are you even sure it is a male? are you even sure it is a veiled? female veileds are often more monotoned and drab in their appearance compared to males , green is usually the predominant color, but i suppose it could be palebrown as well. if it is eating and drinking regularly, then i wouldnt get overly alarmed just yet, but i would recomend reposting with at least the additional info mentioned if you want somebody to try and figure anything out. but i will say this, that with almost all chameleons, regardless of age or species or sex, short of a microsopic fecal exam, condition of the feces is usually is usually the best indicator of the health of the animal, if the feces is relatively dry firm and brown with a usually lesser portion of solid white (the urate) then you are probably ok , but if the feces has any unusually strong or foul odor, or there is any yellow or gelatinous quality to the feces, then there is probably an issue. yellow is usually an indicator of dehydration , gelatinous qualities or stronger than usual odor is usually an indication of something more serious . and does he sleep during the day? and of course a good picture is worth a thousand words
