Not a good idea, these guys need a lot of circulation, you’d be better off with a screened cage for them :) You could get a Monkey anole or something for in there though

You could use butterworms and waxworms. If it is not gaining weight after doing this for a few days, then I suggest consulting a vet. What are you keeping it in? Temps, humidity, lighting etc will be needed to see if there is an underlying problem. A lot of these are wild caught so it may have parasites.

Ahhh I see. Yes, the silks butters and waxies will help her gain wait for sure. Go easy on waxes they are pretty addictive. I would try and get a recall done as soon as you get here to be sure she’s parasite free :) good luck!

20 inches in height is minimum for adults, but I think it would be ok for a while. If you go to the care sheets and look at the top on itll give you the minimum. :)

If it’s your first reptile, or if you’re still new to the hobby most chameleons are relatively hard to keep as they do get stressed out easily. So be careful don’t just jump into this! If you’re heart set and know what you’re doing though good luck!!!

....If I didn’t end up changing your mind be sure to post pictures!!

Well I got a female and the seller told me he thinks shes pregnant. I dont have experience of any type with chams but know about the soil thing and he told me that if she pit some eggs to call him cause he has an incubator. My question is, do they get a little agresive when pregnant ?? She doesnt wants to eat either. What do I do ??

If she is pregnant, put a kitty litter tray in the bottom and fill it with a vermiculite and top soil mix, and mmake sure its moist enough so that if she digs the soil doesn’t cave in one her. She will not want to eat probably because she is in a new enviroment and when gravid they tend to go off feeding because the eggs take up space in her body and they don’t want to eat. Just let her be for a day or two and just offer food daily and see if she eats. Good luck

I putted 6 superworms in her dish and went out for about 2 hours and when i returned there were just 2. I already putted the tray with the soil but if she ia gravis, how much will it take her to put the eggs ?? Is she supposed to be aggreaive because of that or vecause of the stress ??

She probably ate the supers, that’s good. It depends on how long she’s been gravid. It may take a while, only time can tell. Make sure she’s getting plenty of calcium. Stress and pregnancy will cause aggresiveness, just let her be for a few days to adjust, then she will be less agressive. They are not really a handleing type of pet, they are more look don’t touch. Female chams dig deep when they lay. A kitty litter tray is too shallow, she may not lay eggs in something so shallow. You need a laying nest AT LEAST 12 inches deep. I use a large 14" deep plastic plant pot for my females and they dig to the very bottom before they lay. She will likely dig test holes before she actually lays and once she does lay she will cover it very carefully.

Make sure there is foliage or a vine from higher up in her enclosure to the laying bin so she can get down and up easily. Gravid/egg bearing females need lots of extra care; good nutritious food, calcium, water. Gut-loaded crickets are a better daily food staple than worms. Silkies and Phoenix are good for adding fat and calcium, but you should also be providing crickets that that been gut loaded with dark green leafy vegetables, fruits, etc.

Does your female actually look like she’s carrying eggs yet? How old did the vendor say she is?

Chams, by nature, are solitary, cranky creatures. They like their space and privacy. They are not friendly and don’t like each other, much less you or me :)

She needs lots of space, lots of foliage and lots of privacy to settle in and be comfortable. The closer she gets to laying, the more privacy she will need. She won’t lay if she feels threatened or vulnerable. I always cover my females cages when I see them digging test holes.

If you plan on hatching eggs, you MUST be ultra careful with them. They must be placed down in the same exact position they were layed. Otherwise they usually won’t hatch.

The above is true, re: NOT rotating eggs. When removed from the laying bin to an incubating bin, they must not be rotated. When/if candeling, they must not be rotated. Generally, they must stay in the same position from laying to hatching.
