just recently i saw a chuckwalla at a reptile show and got real instred in them, the one i saw was a red backed chckwalla. the guy was selling them for $100 and said he be at the next reptile show. so i was woundering if you guys could tell me if that is a good deal and if not where could i get a good deal. also i was woundering if you could tell me how to take care of a chuckwalla and it’s requirments that they have, like food they eat, how big they get, cage size, lighting, life span, substarate, heat pads, any thing i need to know. all info is greatly appreciated. and if it helps with any thing the chuckwalla that was for sale was about 5" to 7" long.

thanks again for helping.

Price sounds about right for that type. There are other less colorful that you can get a little cheaper on line ,but after you throw in shipping and handling it would be around $100 anyway.
Chucks can grow up to 18 inches and are vegetarians. Feed them collard greens, mustard greens, dandelion, and hard squashes(shredded) like acorn squash do not feed lettuce. The need a fairly large cage, around 75 to 100 gal. for an adult. If you get a juvenile you won’t need that large until they get bigger. Substrate, you can use newspaper or rep-ti carpet. I use play sand because the chucks like to burrow down under the rocks. I also have a huge cage( 15’ x 4’ x 4’) that is outdoors with 250 lb rocks in it. If you do use sand I suggest you have an area where no sand is for feeding to reduce chance of impaction. I personally have never had a case of impaction in over 20 yrs. UVA/UVB light is needed. They are a desert lizard so they require high temps 90 deg to 100 deg. with 110-115 deg basking area. DO NOT USE a HEATING PAD, it can burn the underside of the reptile. Lifespan is from 7-15 yrs. some say up to 25 yrs.

If you have more questions feel free to ask.

Brian

desertreptiles. com was the only website I knew of, but its been unavailable for a while now. You could try kingsnake.com classifieds or do an internet search for breeders of chuckwallas and maybe find one that way.

i bought my chuck from breeders at deerfernfarms. they have a website and its sort of tricky to find exactly what youre looking for while searching it, but if you look closely all the information youll need is available and they are quite punctual responding to emails. theyre a friendly group but i believe they are set up in washington state so depending on where you are, shipping could be quite costly. hope ive been helpful
