 Food for collared lizards.

Hi I’ve been finding alot of posts thet are named "collared not eating" or "im got a collared and he looks skinny but wont eat" well know I’m going to list a nice list of facts.

The best foods and cheapist are:
mealworms
crickets
waxworms
when big enough pinkies

More expensive types:
silk worms
butter worms
locusts
and strangely enough some collared lizard love a good fish every know and then.

so ill give you a good list of fish:
guppys for babys
NO GOLDFISH
ghost clouds or any type of cloud
crayfish(small ones)
small crabs

And never forget to dust fiid with calcium powder.

well hope your colloreds are healthy and hope this helps you.

Yes they will eat a guppy but ONLY if their CB. And yeas about the canned tuna and fish but make sure its organic. Wet or dry cat & dog food? But yes they can eat organic wet dog or cat food but dry is not good because it clogs up their digestive system and they can choke on it.

Hope this helps Fiesta

too much fish is excessive metallic content. In particular, many fish species contain too much mercury, which is very bad for most life forms.

Hey ... im not trying to pick favorites or enemies. I mean u can feed em one every once in a while if you want. But not all the time as a regular meal. So im sorry if i made you made or offended you some how but im just trying to help people, because i always see what to feed my collared posts so, how about we just leave eachother alone or just dont say mean or hurtful things. k?

dont feed either as a staple as they may carry parasites feeding other lizards to lizards isnt a good idea.

Mealworm beetles can be used once in a while. I mean, they’re not great, but if you use mealworms once in a while and a few of them turn into beetles, you can see if the lizard wants a crunchy treat.
I can’t see wanting to have a pet lizard but still feed it lizards. That’s... weird. But it’s an interesting question from a scientific standpoint. I would say that anoles would be a very bad choice because
a. They’re wildcaught
b. They’re kept in crowded cages, therefore exposed to more pathogens than they would be in the wild and
c. They poop all over the same plants that they lick their water off, thereby maximizing parasite cross-infection with one another.
Captive-bred hatchlings of a species that drinks out of a dish and poops in the corner of the cage would be best. So... raising leopard geckos? But then the leopard geckos would start complaining that you aren’t feeding THEM baby collared lizards!

 Food for collared lizards.

I know this is an old thread, but there are a couple things I would like to add to it. First off dog/cat food is a terrible thing to feed your collared or any other lizard. Even if it’s organic and doesn’t have any chemicals in it, it’s still processed and most likely made of meat by-products, and it’s incredibly fatty. What kind of emergency could you have that would require you to feed this stuff?

The other thing I wanted to add is that superworms are a better choice than mealworms as they’re a little more nutritious, though still not great as a staple...a varied diet is always the best way to go.
