 My boy needs a girlfriend...

Hello to all. I’m hoping someone can offer me a little advice. I have had a collard for a while now and have heard that if i put another male in the tank, they will fight. Is this true?? Would it be OK to put a female in??

Thanks to all that can help.

I have Collards as well and I haven’t notice alot of aggression between males, but I have read that they are territorial and do better solo. During breeding season though you can see them in their natural surroundings in pairs on the same rock within inches of each other. You can put as many females in with one male as you want, just don’t over crowd them.

you might want to put to females in ther or more because he might overbreed one girl.

They usually keep them either singly or in larger cages containing trios. A healthy male will exhaust one female, but two females should be okay. If the cage were big enough, you could keep a male with a zillion females if you wanted to, but really keeping good track of the diet and health of even three lizards that are sharing the same enclosure is enough challenge for most people.

Thank you all for your advice. I have done a bit more research and found that the over breeding could be a problem so i will be getting two femals to keep my boy busy. Thanks again

That answer varies from breeder to breeder, which means it probably depends partially on the lizards. And on the setup. If that’s what you’ve already got, you can try it, as long as you can afford to upgrade quickly if it turns out they need a little more space from each other than you expected. I personally would want three feet for one and four feet for a trio.
