 Conditioning for breeding

hi i live in the midwest (Illinois) and its fall now but winter is fastly approaching. Im curious if its ok to start lowering the teperature of the lizards habitat. i have turned off all the heat lamps but i leave on the uvb so they can process their food and the good stuff that does for them. but im curious if its ok for their health to lower temperatures. i dont wanna induce hibernation becuase im inexperinced with that and have been told its unnecesary. Im curious tho if hibernation is neccesary for breeding. thanks for the help

ive read that it is nessecary for breeding. i guess you need to do it for about two months before getting them up and fattening them and then breed them.

My guy is WC (someone else caught and kept him) and he is starting to do it on his own even though i havent dropped his temps or anything.
