 Stopping Brumation

my collared is trying to go into brumation-but he isnt ready. he is in a 40 brdr with temps of 80-85 in the day and a hot spot of 110-120. I havent checked overnight temps but i would guess that they are dipping into the upper 60s. I hadnt taken his food away, and he was looking dehydrated. He ate and drank just now. Can I get him to stop trying or what?

if u dont want him to brumate, rise the temps a litle bit! how old is he?normaly it’s better that the collared weights at least 28grams to brumate, if the collared weights less than 28 dont brumate him!

its like hibernating

i am having trouble raising the temps though. I put a cardboard cover over the screen with holes for the lights and two vents but they still didnt come up that much. should i try covering the sides with something or getting a heat mat for under the tank?

A heat mat might help, but I suggest more light wattage. Brightness helps hold off the winter blues. What’s his current photoperiod? if you’re doing 12 and 12, you might want to extend daylight hours to 14 or 15. He’ll still get enough sleep as long as the room stays dark when his cage is.
How bad do the cool spots get at night? it’s not always the averagbe temp that gets them; it’s often the extremes. If there’s a corner that sometimes gets too cool at night, that is a big problem spot. Move the tank if you have to. Or put the heat mat under the cool spot, but with a dimmer switch to turn it way, way down. You’re not trying to turn the cool spot into a warm spot; you’re just trying to make it stop being a cool spot. You can also throw foil over the tank at night. You could use a blanket or sheet of plastic if you want to, but foil isn’t flammable so you can put it right on while the light fixture is still hot.
Or, alternately, you can opt it for a night light with a red bulb or ceramic heat emitter in it, but again, you’re not using to make the nights hot. You’re trying to simulate normal summer night lows as opposed to winter lows. So don’t go all Tim Allen on him. Subdtlety is key here. The dimmer switch is your friend.
