  4x2x18" cage for collard lizard

I have a spare 4x2x18" cage i was thinking about putting collard lizards in there i was just wondering how many i could put in there. I have read i could put 3 female and a male i just want to here what everyone thinks and so i can get an idea. I have bin doing my research as what i always do before i get any kind of reptile or pet at that. i was thinking about using either play sand or maybe a play sand pot soil mixture. From the pictures i have seen a lot of people use play sand and some use [cypress] i think.

I’m sure some do use cyprus, but since you aren’t trying to keep it humid I’d say stick with play sand.
It is big enough for a male and two females. I’m not sure about three, largely because I’m not sure how complicated the social dynamic becomes when you’ve got that many. I do think that the more you have, the harder it can be on whichever is least dominant (I know, females don’t fight like males generally, but I mean "dominant" as in who has right of way when there’s a cricket in front of them. The more often the loser loses, the lower teir quality of life.) Cleanliness is an issue too. Waste can cement itself pretty stubbornly to hot, dry rocks. Do you really want four that much, or did someone suggest you should have three females to each male? I’ve always heard two.

that actually great to hear i wasn’t really planning on getting three female because i like to give my reptile as much room as i could possibly can. I found a breeder who will have baby collards on the 23 and am looking forward get getting a trio. Cant wait and I’ll probably will be posting pictures.

Personally I wouldn’t put 3 in an enclosure that size even though you probably can get away with it. I have a tank that’s roughly the same size as yours with a single female in it, and she’s incredibly active and uses every inch of that space.

In my case I *might* consider a second one, but I definitely wouldn’t go with 3 because of how active they are - I wouldn’t want to crowd them.

Just my $0.02
