Any advice ....please? My collard male Floyd has become very fussy with his eating...not sure why , the guy at the reptile shop said it could be that hes more interested in his "mrs" and could have other things on his mind? Could this be true? ...he is eating wax worms but these are not that nutritious for him and I am starting to worry...anyone got any advice?

Any advice ....please? Can you get silkworms? They’re very similar in size, appearance, and texture to waxworms, but they’re a very nutritious staple.

Any advice ....please? my name is Chip/I live in wyoming usa/anyway I love collards /once I had a farm of a male and several females/anyway somehow and I,m not sure how /but some weird disease or parasite got into the community and wiped them all out/I even had to deparasite them and everything/well anyway I would guess your problem is one of three ;A. the cage isn’t warm enough(or basking spot is under 90 degrees/B.the lizard may have disease(parasite or common cold)C.some lizards just finicky about there environment if cage is not secure lizard may feel unconfortable and just not eat /I would try just for kicks covering the cage or commplete isolation also be sure to offer plenty of calcium and good lighting is important and food sorce should be crickets /superworms/pinky mice/anything that moves and will fit between lizards two eyes/wax worms are a great fatty sorce for lizards however they do not contain a sufficient amount vitmins for reptiles,,anyway hope that helps. one time I had a sick collard and had to force feed him for six months /that lizard lived for ten yrs after healthy and happy//one more thing collard lizards have a varacious appetite and love to hunt they need plenty of room and lots of things that move! I hope this helps

Any advice ....please? Hello chip, thanks for your advice, a month or so ago we did find mites on the female so we completely cleaned out the viv with correct solution and treated both the lizards, today they both dont seem bothered about getting out to bask, I am sure the temp is ok , basking spot is around 100 and cooler area is about 80 perhaps its the after effects of the mites?Yesterday Floyd actually ate his first cricket in a week and Flo is always greedy when she can be bothered to crawl out from her bed! They just dont seem as lively at the moment, they are in a 4ft viv and we are thinking of getting a longer and taller one, so perhaps we should de stress them and cover the viv for a while as the temp is fine and they do have space to run and places to hide, i’m loving their little ways but at the moment I think they are not bothered to do any thing. Thanks again for the advice, think I will go and cover them up for a few days and hope they both get back to their freindly selves! thanks again x

Any advice ....please? hi agin ///well it sounds like your doing everything right /one more thing if your not already doing it///believe it or not collards also need to have some kind of constant humidity/not so much as a jungle lizard however they need a good spraying at leats once a day/just to get little bit to relieve the dryness/I say at least 30% percent humidity//and heres one other thing that could help this is just a home remady and is not totally proven:however it has worked for me and mabey it could help//I hate mites and have had to deal with them as well/heres what I do mites hate carrots something about the ingrediants and natural oils in the vegitables gets rid of mites /so what I,ve done was to take one carrot cut off about one inch and put in four corners or just several places in the vivarium let sit untill dries out then just disgaurd/the carrots are great source for cricket load as well. since your lizard was sick with mitesz it could take some time to just feel better, like people they need time to rebiuld there bodies/if your liz has eaten at least once well thats a great start!anyway personaly I think it,s great that you have collards thats so cool! hope you have lots of babies /so mabey I could get one cause there sure isn’t anycollards here in the Us well I hope any of this info has helped/ buh buy for now Chip

Any advice ....please? oh I have one more thing/that could help agin this is if your not already doing it/if you have small fan you can run circulated air through the vavarium and sometimes just getting a fresh breathe of air helps too/its not something that you have to do all the time/I do it once every third or fourth day and not for very long either, just enough to get things circulating a little if that doesn’t help then theres not a lot of options left for survival. well I hope any of this info helps cause I love collards and I hope your lizard lives forever!and gets fat and sassy and the whole nine yrds
later Chip!

Any advice ....please? Hello chip thanks for the info again, came home from work today and they are both out and about, I have been misting the viv once a week so will do it a little more often, as for the fat and sassy bit we call Flo "fatty Flo". Floyd has done his first poo in four days so I think the olive oiled wax worm did the trick as for the carrot they both love eating shredded carrot so its first come first served for the mites! The mites I am sure have definately gone so hope they are both on the road to recovery...as for babies oh my god not sure If Im qualified. lol...heres hoping alls good for the next few days and my little beauties will be jumping around and leaping from the viv onto my shoulder like before! (and yes I am a careful owner)...may even get some photos on here if I can sort it out it didnt upload last time I tried , something about the pic being too big..thanks again Chip very grateful for the advice..Jill x
