uhh good question.../ depends what you buy. i personally like the eastern collareds cuz of their color, but im sure youll find someone interested in buying collareds. im thinking of buying more actually. it seems that people that breed them tend to buy them. breeders trade to add new blood to their collections. i bought mine randomly, because i didnt want a giant lizard ( i do now) but i didnt want a little anole, so i got something in between. turns out i choose a very beatiful and interesting lizard that is awesome. i love them now, and i wish i could have ten more. if you put an add online or go to reptile show ( which is my plan if i get ever get eggs) youll sell to somebody. their easy to care for as well, however they need alot of room for a medium sized lizard.

also i think their a little harder to breed then i think beardies are (not familiar them). they take alot of steps and preperation, and thats not a garantee of eggs, or even mating. also eggs tend to be hard to maintain. its being done by breeders, but they have alot of experience. may take me a season or two to get some eggs, but im working at it. if your looking to make as good a profit on collareds as you are beardies then you may be waiting a bit. its hard but once it happens youll get what your looking for. but i think beardies are easier to breed then collareds. still i love them and i cant wait for my first hatchlings!!

It’s not that you can’t sell them; there’s a lot of us who don’t support the WC disposeable pet industry but still think collards are awesome. I’m talking to a breeder about getting one this summer, and the shipping alone will cost more than buying one in a pet shop would. Just know that you won’t make much money.

For one thing, the young aren’t as bright as the adults, and there’s so much variety in coloration that people often look at them and worry that they’re going to just stay that dull grey all their lives. If they buy an adult, they can be sure that they’ve got a nice green one or blue one or whatever.

For another thing, there are always a lot of 20-30 dollar WC ones for sale which keep the market value down, so if you charge more for CB a handful of people will be delighted to do business with you but most will be completely bafffled that you’re charging so much for a "junk animal." If you just want to do it for fun and are mostly just worried that nobody will take the offspring off your hands at all, I don’t thnk you’ll find that to be the case at all. But economically, you’ll be lucky to break even.

Unfortunately, that perptuates the whole cycle. People are hesitant to raise them, so the collectors continue to dominate the market, so the price tag continues to based on what it takes to drive out into the scrub and throw a bunch of them into a beer cooler rather than actually taking care of permanent breeding stock.

i agree, but i wouldnt mind buying some wild coughts giving them good homes, and maybe getting some offspring from them. i bought a wild cought male recently after my first male ran away, because one i wanted a new male, and i figured i should try to care for it and give it a good home. also id like to have some babies from my female. i guess i wouldnt want these poor wild cought lizards to fall into the wrong hands and have a lizard die unesseccarily. in order to start a god captive bread stock you either have to get captive breads or wild coughts. wild coughts add new blood to the captive breed market. i dont like wild catching, but im going to take of my wild cought lizard.

know what you mean about that, too. Kind of a Catch-22 situation. There isn’t enough CB genetic stock available yet for a large CB-from-CB population to force the shiftier dealers out of business (or at least force them to sell, say, leopard geckos or something domestic-oid like that) and in order to breed, you’ve got to get them somewhere.

my feeling is that these wild cought reptiles need a good home or atleast as good as i can provide them. its kinda why i bought the wild cought male i did so that he wasnt in some dealers stock and would not be cared for properly. kinda of like a rescue thing. hopefully i can breed him and then get some babies. idk its bitter sweet... i dont like to buy wild coughts but i feel if i can help them as well as breed then that will be a great success. Keeping them so healthy and happy that they prosper and breed. thats a success. thats my goal.

i used to sell wild caught collards we have a very unique sub species here, largo canyon species. i sold mainly males (one male can service many girls) so we would still see the collard lizard on top the rocks as we drive by.i now teeter wondering about wild caught apposed to raising but its always good to keep the Gene pool diverse but the problem is what happens when we drain the wild Gene pool
