 Substrate

I was just wondering, what is a good substrate or substrate mix that can allow my collard to borrow in? I don’t want to use that clay substrate. My collard loves to create borrows. I put in 3" of regular play sand, the top layer hardened and he was able to dig a tunnel the length of the tank. It was cool to see. So I want the sand to be safer for him to dig in. I was thinking of mixing some play sand with some coir. Would that work? Or does somebody have a different idea? Thanks.

well you can use walnut shells, sand, sand mixed with coir or get some burrowing sand if they have it at your pet store.
