The eat at least once a day most of the time, use a lot of space, and need a warm ambient daytime temperature plus at least one hot basking spot. They poop multiple times a day ( at least mine do) and can often be difficult to keep happy and eating during the winter. Males can get violent if housed together. Also, they can jump very well. If you’ve got a tame captive-bred lizard, jumping out of the tank isn’t a big deal; it just means they want to wander around a bit. Might be a problem if you’ve got a cat, though.

collard lizards are by far my favorite lizard they are much like a small tyrannosaurus rex more often than not they carry their very own personalities and are so cool to get to know much of the time you can handle them and they become tame after a short period of time!they make the best of pets! My advice is if you want a lizard that won’t grow 6 feet long (pet store carry baby lizards, a lot of them are miniature adults ...a monitor can grow 6 feet long for example), don’t mind the cricket/superworm thing for feeding, like energetic and LIVELY reptiles (they need a lot of rooom for their 12 inches believe me) then Collards are the way to go. My advice is get captive breds, give them a lot of jumping room and climbing stuff, (rocks bark or $$$pet store aquarium stuff-easir to clean). They l;ive 12-14 years and if you like you can let them run around (they run on their hind legs!!) they are easy to catch, they are brave little buggers, and are not afraid of you.
