 HELP...PLEASE!!!!

ok. im having BIG com problems. cant get my desktop to come up...just the wallpaper...no icons. i cant even go on line. im having to use someone elses com to type this. i can, though, get the task manager up. the only thing i can get on there is yahoo and it wont search from there either. does anyone have any idea how to fix it? please, i miss the forum...im going nuts!!!!

donno. i think its just a micosoft...cant find any naame on it...anywhere. its been down for about 2 wks. sometimes i can get it to come on with wallpaper only, and sometimes it wont come up at all, or it freezes.????

Sounds like you might either have a virus or one of you memory chips got fried. Has anyone been screwing around inside the computer? Because you have to wash your hands very well before touching the insides of a computer.

And also, do you have your windows disks? if you do pop them in and try to re-install windows, that could fix it aswell.

hi. got it fixed. seems there was a virus. this 1 shut down windows. it only cost $100 to fix. you know...someone told me along time ago that if your com comes up with a virus, that you could fix it yourself. anyone know anything about this?? BTW, only had it home for a month and...viruses left and right. 1 day i was at the store, but left media player up (just gone for 1/2 hr). when i got back, there were 4 alerts come up. we had to run some other kind of scan for a hidden virus. the com guy walked me thru it he said it was a DOS scan...something like that. that was a week ago and so far nothing more has come up. im getting ready to do another scan and clean my com and stuff. hopefully everything is OK.

You could have just booted to a live cd of linux. Or better yet, install linux instead of windows. I can *almost* guarantee you will never get a virus when using linux as an os.

Removing viruses is pretty simple, as long as you have a decent av. I use avg on my windows partition and its pretty handy. Just follow the instructions it gives you to remove them.

Also, you should scan your comp at least every week with an av, spyware scanner, and adware scanner.

Finally, $100 to fix a virus is a complete RIP OFF.

ok...never heard of linux. but if its better...
also, i used to have avg and if i remember right, it was good. since i got this computer i dont have that. this com came with AVAST! Antivirus. the guy swears by it. he didnt install it tho. he said it was on there already. i was thinking about going to Norton, but idunno now.

can i keep windows along with the linux? or do i have switch over? thanks for the new info:) :) :) M-

I use a freebie virus program from this Link, has never done me wrong :o)
DL (down load) the free version. I get free updates whenever the system upgrades.
There are also free spyware and other freebie stuff :o)

well, just now! today!! i got 2 more viruses. nobody else in my household is getting them but ME!!! i feel PICKED ON!!! lol. i just ran a scan using Avast! Antivirus. thats what i have, anyways. the guy told me it was the best, but obviously...
1 virus said it was a restore something-or-other; and the other said it was ’imbedded’! whatever that means (doesnt sound good!).
idunno..im tired of this! the only things we go to are like: here, other animal sites, my daughter looks up horses, pogo and limewire. thats it (i have a block for the kids, so...lol).

Sounds like you might want to download a copy of Spybot Search and Destroy. Make sure you turn on the "TeaTimer" resident protection system. It will give you accept/deny prompts when something tries to change system settings. Normally these only appear when you update or install something. If they show up at any other time it generally indicates an unauthorized program/script executing and you can deny it to stop an infection. Using this program and a couple of others (some reserved only for programmers and comp-pro’s) I’ve been virus free for almost a decade. I’ve only ever gotten a virus one time. >^.=.^<;; any other time was me checking response rates.

thanks! DragonMyr. i got the program last night and ran it. WOW !! it found like 170 problems. seems like all of them were in the ’start up’. also, i tried to follow directions...kind of confusing, tho. supposedly it fixed the problems when i clicked on "fix the prolems" lol.
does it filter, as well? i didnt catch that part. the Avast! Antivirus program that i have is suppose to do this!

what is "Malware"? and "Win32"? those i always get. get a lot of "trojens", also.

why is it that 1 computer gets a lot of viruses and others dont? hmm. thanks again. M-

do you clean your cookies and temp file out? You can/should also do a "Run" (in the start menu)
Click START - then RUN - then type in the lil box      %temp%
This will clean all temp files that the "internet options" cleaning does not get
you may have a cookie you need to remove... My Ex went to porn sites and I had to Manually remove stuff... took me 3 days ..four hours ech day my daughter was getting those sick pop ups I was furious

Yes click EDIT - then SELECT ALL - then DELETE SELECTED ITEMS
If you get a message saying "Can not delete.... ...highlight a few at a time.... if you have a program(s) running you may not be able to delete certain files... then Empty Recycle Bin ...do this daily if you surf a lot... and make sure you DEFRAG your puter at least once a month (once a week if you surf a lot)
You’d be suprized how much faster your puter will be... My sis did not EVER defrag (had her puter for 3 yrs and worked Online - lol) never emptied recycle bin or temp files... occasionally delete search history... but make sure you remeber/know all your passwords before you do ...if you have them stored/auto sign in... you will have to log back into most places

well, i went thru most of it last night and deleted a lot. so, your suppose to delete all?? i was wondering. some of the files said they were important to comp and couldnt even open them to see what they were. do some of these run the comp?

you were right! there was files in there that i deleted along time ago. no wonder that stupid reg cleaner still came up and tried to run.

some ppl say that ’google’ is not good, that having a ’google’ toolbar will get you viruses. this is my ex talking and hes pretty ’computer’ smart. he says ’no 1 he knows uses ’google’. i have google, but dont use it cause that kind of scared me a little. anyway, i scanned it and didnt have a virus there :)

also, when i was at that place you sent me, i went thru all of everyones stuff and deleted unimportant stuff. it practically took me half the nite lol.

i do defrag at least once a month and delete cookies and clean reg once a week and do a scan once a week. theres not much else that i know of to do, except what you told me, of course.

well, let me know if i need to delete more or it all lol. thank...AGAIN for all the help. i really appreciate it and i HATE calling that comp guy (who just wants my $$ lol). M-

if it is in the RUN file it will not harm any other files to delete! I was skeert too - lol
also if you delete or uninstall some thing and get a message some thing like "this application can not run, blah blah bla" be sure to remove from within the Add/Remove programs of the Control Panel...
I also do a DISC CLEAN UP once in a while... do both the drives (in defrag also) I used to just do the D: drive.. "cuz it was the big one" -blink-blink- *blonde look*

i was able to delete files from the ’temp internet files’, but not from the ’temp’ file folder. it said cannot delete b/c it will make computer run bad. had to delete Adobe completely. some of it said cant delete b/c some 1 or something else was using the file. oh well. M-

see!!!! i dont know anything about comps. my ex will have a cow if i screw it up, since he is the 1 fixes it. he hasnt had time, tho. so i thought id try on my own (with someone from here, that is). i didnt delete from the Temp file folder...lol it wouldnt let me, thank goodness. i did, tho, delete the ’temp internet files’. which was a whole sh..load of stuff on there. it deleted without any boxes coming up. so hopefully i did it right. everything seems ok. surfing is doing ok, still a little slow at times. other than that i think its ok.

just to let you know exactly what i did: i went to ’xtempx’, a window came up and, you know that folder icon on the tool bar that has a green arrow? well i clicked on that (i have this problem..i like to click on stuff lol) and it took me to another window with a list. i went to temp internet files. and deleted.
now...i just went back there lol and its full again. its just places that ive been to the last few days.

Yes ...every time you use Anything... there will be files... I play a game and there is a file... I use my photo edit program there are like 6 files... when you go online... there are files from anywhere you search... even pics from the headers (the title banner), etc

thats cool. i dont have a snake (mainly b/c i LIKE rats lol). but snakes are cool. if i was to get 1 it would either be a corn or 1 of those green vine snakes (i think theyre called). those are pretty :)
right now i have a guinnea piggy, 2 chihuahuas, a cat, a water dragon, a aquatic frog and fish :)
