 I FEEL BAD..SO BAD

ive got an adult corn snake wich i bought not long ago but ive found out it only eats live prey so i got 1 of my pet mice and chucked it in the cage..[it took me ages too]...the mice was taking the pi*s out of the snake because it was climbing all over him..lol...then the mouse started to nibble on the snake then BAMM!!!!! THE SNAKE GOT HIM....but then once the snake had curled around the mouse i noticed the mouse biting the s*it out of my snake so i hit the mouse on the head with my camera but it still kept biting for about 10 seconds..i thought DAM the snakes gonna have a big hold in the side..lol..if you,d have seen the way the mouse was biting, DAM!!!...THEN i left my snake to eat him exspecting the snake to be bleeding bad..BUT when i went to check there was nothing not even a scratch. and the mouse was biting near the snakes neck where its thin..but nothing...i was wondering have snakes got some sort of rubber skin or somet?

They’re skin’s are pretty resistant. Not impermeable, but I’ve seen the same thing happen. Just always be on the lookout for wounds and be ready to put some ointment on them. I’m surprised he ate after you were in there whacking with a camera, but I’m glad the mouse didn’t go to waste. What I’ve always done when I had to break things up was grab the base of the mouse’s skull with my thumb and index finger and crack them by squeezing. You should try out of cage feeding, though, if he insists on live. That way he can choose the precise moment that he wants to go into the feeding container and grab the mouse from above, then he can just drop in and wrap around with the muzzle held pointing away from his coils. And any time you get an obviously aggressive one (sometimes they get a little upset on the way home from the pet shop) just kill it and see if he’s ready to eat dead yet. If not, freeze it and get another mouse in a day or two. Your eventual goal is still to switch him over. I had one snake that wouldn’t consistantly eat dead food until he was eight years old, but eventually he was eating f/t with no hesitation.

you can do what i did, it was harsh, but for me it was a ccsident, i was breeding mice, and basically,i was killing adult by hitting them over the head.. now, i didint do one hard, but it made it all dizzy basically, and it couldnt walk straight btu for the snake.. it will still be alive, just dont hit it as hard as you would to kill it or stun it

yeah smack it over the head, like i said, but not to hard, so you dont kill it, it will just make it dizzy like, it will stumble round, in allot of pain, but then the snake will go, wow, its alive i will eat it

or you can try wiggling round fresh killed

It’s not against the law to feed live food to pets. Alot of people will advise you to feed dead/frozen to your snakes to get rid of the parasites/ mites or what ever little thing is growing on the food.

It’s legal to feed live in the U.S. I’m not sure, but I think it’s illegal in England.

it is illegal in the uk, and i have found it in writing

erm, i dont have any more idea, most you can do,o is get some frozen ones, and just try to convert him, by thawing it out, in hot water, making it warm, and wiggling it

Um just pick the live mouse up by the scruff of the neck with tweasers and hold it in front of your snake its that easy.

Um just pick the live mouse up by the scruff of the neck with tweasers and hold it in front of your snake its that easy, this way you don’t have to feel sorry for the mouse and you don’t have to wory about it hurting your snake. (trust me I dont feel bad for mice)

 I FEEL BAD..SO BAD

a mouse being constricted can still hurt the snake, they kick, have flexible necks, and can bite

here, cheack this out, and before anyoneses, it was left alone, its a rat and boa, i know, but its still an effect of live feeding

Link

i know this guy cant help feeding live, but obviosly wants to convert, for the snakes sake too

You should have no problem converting to pre killed prey. I’ve never know a corn snake to not convert. Even wild caught corns will eat f/t on the first or second attempt. Just let your snake get good and hungary before feeding him. If you have to, skip 2-3 meals. Let him go a while with out food. This will not harm in any way. They are designed by nature to go longer than that with no food and will not lose more than an ounce or two of weight. It shouldn’t take long before he will convert pre killed. Once he is eating pre killed then switch to f/t.
For any pre killed he refuses, put it in the freezer and save it for when he is eating them.
