 Swallowed aspen bedding..

I have a question, is that aspen bedding that people usually have their snakes on in their tanks poisonous to them at all if ingested? I just fed my snake and he seemed to swallow a piece that was in his feeding box. I don’t think it is, but I just want to take extra precautions. Thanks.

In the wild they do sometimes swallow sticks and twigs, because its attached to their prey’s fur/feather and whatever. A aspen or a small piece wont hurt. It’ll take time to digest. So try to prevent it. Too much aspen it’ll clog his intestines.

It doesn’t digest (even most herbivores can’t digest wood; snakes can digest bone, but not wood) but it does usually pass. Not always though. If he goes an unusually long time without bowel movements, it’s clogged him. In that case, there’s a few hydration tricks that can help loosen him up, but hopefully you won’t need them.
By "feeding box", do you mean a box that you take him out and feed him in? If so, you probably don’t need bedding in it. I’ve had good results with an empty cardboard box, plastic bucket, and newspaper-lined spare tank.

Some aspen could have come out with the snake though, that’s quite hard to prevent (especially when the snake has burrowed and you have to dig them out).

Your snake should be fine if it was a small piece, just keep an eye on him. :)

It was actually just some pieces in the feeding box that I forgot to take out. It was just a little piece sticking outside his mouth, and I wanted to grab it but it would end up with him biting me. I’ll keep an eye on him anyways, I’m sure it’ll pass.
