New mexico
Im going to New Mexico (near carlsbad) over spring break and I was wondering if anyone has some good field herping spots around there. We are driving from denver, so if you have any place along that route thats good for field herping, let me know. This is my first time, so Im really exited. |

I don’t know of any good herping spots there I’m afraid - just to say lucky you! I went to New Mexico about two and a half years ago and it was amazing. I didn’t go to Carlsbad Caverns but they are meant to be fantastic, but we did go to White Sands which is an amazing place. Hope someone can help and enjoy! |

Quote: i dont keep my finds; they will all be released back in the same place that I found them. I just want to get some pictures I’m sure that is the case, but I think Dan’s right that people won’t take this at face value, because people just don’t reveal things like this unless they know you very well. I know some sites near me in England which are protected sites for the smooth snake (Coronella austriaca), rare in England - but I would never say where they are because you never know who’s reading these boards.
Also, I love this board; it’s great to chat about corns and in general about keeping snakes - but in my experience it’s not bursting with people who are experienced in field herping. But as above, even if you found one that was, you couldn’t expect people to tell you much. Your best bet is either to use common sense about where you might find a snake - we found a western diamondback in a dried up river bed on the outskirts of Phoenix, for instance - or to contact anexpert or society local to where you’re going, who might be able or willing to help in some general terms. |
