It’s probably just frightened & in new surronudings so it’s just trying to scare you away - seems like it’s working! lol
Don’t give up trying to handle the snake but if it’s getting really stressed out then leave it til the next day or so. You don’t want the snake going off its food & try to leave at least a day or 2 after feeding until handling again. The snake may try to strike you but it wont hurt at all, it may not even catch you. When the corn snakes are so small they will be more difficult to handle compared to an adult.

at the size you’ve stated it should be possible to sex by sight. If you’re able to put a pic of the underneath tail area I or someone else should be able to confirm the sex of your snake for you. The pic will need to be clear though.

Otherwise is there a visible bulge around the vent area ?

im assuming mines male coz it sed on the container i got him in, hes only about 7months old and his whole body is thin, so looking to see if his tail tapers or not is near enuf impossible, when he gets bigger itll be easier to verify hes sex

use photo bucket or Hi-5 & set-up an A/C with them it’s easy. Or resize the images in photo shop (similar).

the green circle is roughly where the vent ’seems’ to be in the pic. The smaller image has black lines showing where the tail tapers after the vent & the length of where it slightly stops. This is all guessing though from the original pic.

Very pretty snake but you need to get 2 hides in the cage and get rid of the heat rock. He could be rattling his tail because he’s stressed and has no where to hide. You really haave to make sure he has enough places to hide and the right heat source. A heat light or under tank heater hooked up to a thermostat are good sources of heat. And something as simple as a cardboard box big enough for him to have all sides touching when he’s in it is good for a hide. Please post pics when you get your setup fixed so we can all make sure it’s ok.

And did you get him off of petfinder? I was looking on there and it had a snake like that in Marlton. Is that who you got it from?

You just better go ahead and say what the crap, I don’t care if he bites me, and begin to hold him every day. My corn has never bitten me, but the only times he has even acted like he was going to was when I used to pick him up kind of uncertainly. The trick is to pick him up without showing a bit of fear, and once he realizes that you aren’t scared of him, he will no longer put on a show. Make slow, deliberate movements like you know what you are going to do and you are going to do it whether the snake trys to hurt you or not, and it will calm down.
