 SETTING UP YOUR ENCLOSURE...

You can use Glass Tanks, Wood Built, or Rubber-Maid containers...

The general rule is ..the enclosure/container must be at least 2/3 the length of the snake...
Personally I would not use tubs for Corns... as they are "slick lil suckers" and may zip out as soon as ya open the lid and most like to climb... but if you do use em ...get a taller type cuz they do climb... some use tubs in a rack system...
Here’s a Link for some nice containers... very clear looking - like glass - seem a bit expensive, but may be less than glass tanks. Or you can find cheap ones at like a dollar store or wal-mart.

Just make sure you have All the right equipment needed!

Digital Thermometer/Hydrometer (found at Wal-Mart [Hardware dept] - Lowes, Home Depot, etc for less than $15)
(Dial gages are Crap) the probe from the therm/hydrometer gores IN the Warm Side Hide - the unit goes on the cool side of the tub/tank.

You need to get something similar to this...

Temps should read:
Warm Side: between 75-85 F (25-30 C)
Cool Side:between 70 - 75F (21C - 31C)
Humidity: between 40-50%
the Probe goes Inside the Warm hide (don’t attach it - makes for a pain when cleaning)
Unit goes on cool side... near the bottom of enclosure
In temp = Cool side temp
Out temp = Warm side temp
Bottom Reading = Humidity Level

The heat provided should be obtained by using a UTH (under Tank Heater) With a Thermostat!
Belly Burn is Nasty, Unhealthy, and can be Very Costly!!!

UTH (Under Tank Heater) to warm one side of the enclosure

Thermostat to Control the Heat (works like a House thermostat)

Water bowl big enough for your snake to soak in

2 Hides - one one each side of the enclosure

Locks - Make Sure you have Clips to lock down tight, any lid you have.
Where the head goes, so will the body!

Substrate - anything but Cedar and pine (TOXIC TO ALL SNAKES)
or Sand (sand will dry them out, get in their mouths and under scales and cause infection)

Most use Aspen...
Many use news paper, some use shelf liner - No Contact Paper -
cypress mulch, etc.

Can put Branches for climbing, or to make it look pretty/eye catching...

Just remember... the more you put In, the More you have to Clean!!!

Should do a complete clean once a month, spot clean as needed :o)

Please, please read Care Sheets Link, preferably Before getting Any snake!!!
With Proper Care... Most snakes can live 20-30 years :o)

Anyone want to add stuff, feel free... I have no clue on tub set ups, if some one wants to add That

And

if using fake vines, etc., be sure to clip off or bend ends that have "hanger rings" snakes can get stuck in them, and can Not Back out. And NO Tape what so ever inside the enclosure!!!
Extra heat needed, like in winter months can be suplimented by using a Low Watt red or blue light... No UV lights!
Special lighting Not Needed... room lights are good for day time/early evening.

Actually tubs work very well and the 32 and 41 qt steriltes are the prefered tub of choice for the mojority of breeders housing lots of snakes. I’ve never had a corn "zip" out of any of my sterilites before. I do however very much agree with everyting else you’ve said (I’ve never used cypress but know of a few larger breeders on other forums who like it).

I especially like these quotes:

Quote:

Just remember... the more you put In, the More you have to Clean!!!

This is so true!!

Quote:

Locks - Make Sure you have Clips to lock down tight, any lid you have.
Where the head goes, so will the body!

I still have a black rat snake missing that escaped because I failed to lock a top!!

Picture of a rack set up

basic set up inside a bin, box on left is cool side and filled with aspen, large water bowl with top to keep water from sloshing out when opening and closing bin, hide box on right site over the heat tape.

Picture of butter male hanging out in cool side box.

this is how I currently keep hatchlings..

I recommend bungee cording the tops of all plastic shoe boxes used to house hatchlings...I learned this the hard way!!
This pic shows how the heat tape is set up running along the rear of the shelves. Note also the yellow index cards stuck under each box. This is how I keep feeding records. Every snake has their own card.

That link you put looks good, but what would be a good size container once they are grown completely is what I’d like to know...anyone has an idea? and is a heat tape as good as a UTH? Just something to know in case of future needs

I dunno what happened... LoL ...the thread has spread out over the whole page

Anyway...
Here is what is Recomended:

10 gallon for hatchling/baby Corn
20 gallon for sub adult/2-3 ft long
30 gallon enclosures would be sufficient for an Adult

A 10 gallon Tank would be sufficient for a baby/hatchling,
and depending on how Small, a 5 gallon would work as well.

A 20 gallon would be sufficient for a sub adult/mid-size Corn Snake...
giving it more space, but not too much.

A 30 gallon is sufficient for a full grown Corn Snake, for life time.
Some prefer bigger, when they are full grown, but not required.

The smaller the Snake, the smaller the Enclosure should be...
Especially with hatchlings/babies!

Too Much space Can cause Stress, leading to other issues,
such as Not feeding, etc.

The General Rule is the enclosure should be 2/3 the length of the snake.

Like, when the time comes for a 20 gal Tank... standard size may be better,
as Corns like to climb, some don’t, mine didn’t, some like to burrow more than climbing.

Read through the post "SETTING UP YOUR ENCLOSURE".
Lots of info there, for Tanks and tubs.
Be sure you have All the equipment needed, and have your enclosure set up
at Least 48 hours Prior to getting Any snake.

And before this goes any further...
This goes for Everyone...

If you Have a Question...
Please make a New Post, so that it will Not get Over looked Here, with everyone thinking some one is just bumping this post!
Thanx
